The timeline for Peyton Watson\u2019s return isn\u2019t being measured in days.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeyton\u2019s going to be week-to-week,\u201d Nuggets coach David Adelman said after Friday\u2019s practice at Ball Arena.<\/p>\n
Watson will miss Saturday\u2019s game against San Antonio after straining his right hamstring for the second time in Wednesday\u2019s win over the Jazz. The first strain happened in a loss to the Knicks on Feb. 4. The 23-year-old returned against Portland on March 22 and played in five games before suffering the same injury.<\/p>\n
The forward was in the midst of a breakout year, averaging 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists, all career highs, while shooting 41.1% from 3-point range.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know the severity of it in the sense of was it more extreme than the last time. I just know that it\u2019s obviously an issue that he\u2019s going to have to work through, like he\u2019s worked through it before,\u201d Adelman said. \u201cIt\u2019s unfortunate. He\u2019s had such a good year. I feel for him as a person. Not having the opportunity to come back and play right now is completely unfair to somebody who put the work in, but that\u2019s way sports is.\u201d<\/p>\n
Zeke Nnaji and Spencer Jones will also miss the game against San Antonio, while Tim Hardaway Jr., who also left Wednesday\u2019s game, is probable with left knee soreness. Adelman added that Jones is day-to-day after straining his hamstring against Golden State on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The Spurs come to Denver at mostly full strength and winners of 11 in a row. It will be the first time Most Valuable Player candidates Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama have faced each other this season. San Antonio, two games behind Oklahoma City, is still chasing the one seed.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo one has played as well as they have the last couple of months,\u201d Adelman said.<\/p>\n
Denver entered Friday\u2019s slate in fourth place, a game behind the Lakers. Los Angeles will be without Luka Doncic for the remainder of the regular season after the star suffered a left hamstring injury in a loss to the Thunder on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
The hope is that Watson is back playing in one of Denver\u2019s five games left before the end of the regular season. The playoffs start on April 18, or two weeks from Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll see how it goes,\u201d Adelman said.<\/p>\n
