With the Denver Nuggets’ entire starting five out due to injury, David Adelman will turn exclusively to his bench on Monday, January 5.<\/p>\n

The Denver Nuggets have plenty of talent on their roster.<\/p>\n

But talent costs plenty of money when it\u2019s extension time. And the league\u2019s CBA has made it more difficult for teams to load up on expensive talent these days, leaving organizations to make some very difficult decisions.<\/p>\n

Soon, the Nuggets might have to make one of their own. This summer, the rookie contract of the young and thriving Peyton Watson will expire.<\/p>\n

To no surprise, the Nuggets are interested in bringing him back for the long-run.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey want to keep this guy,\u201d HoopsHype\u2019s Michael Scott said recently.<\/a><\/p>\n

With Watson potentially having a major extension looming, among other situations, who becomes the odd-man-out, and where does that leave him?<\/p>\n

Michael Scotto recently opened up on the Nuggets\u2019 future, spreading some intel on their thought process heading into the 2026 offseason.<\/p>\n

While revealing that Watson is certainly in Denver\u2019s plans, Cam Johnson just might be someone who will get moved.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur old friend here in Brooklyn is a really good stretch-four, but for Denver, they\u2019re going to have to worry about looking at these extensions. You got [Nikola] Jokic, you got [Jamal] Murray, you got Aaron Gordon. You\u2019ve got to fit these guys under the aprons. They\u2019re going to be pretty close to the second apron,\u201d Scotto said<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way that they can stay below that and ensure more flexibility for the roster is potentially looking at the market and seeing if there\u2019s a fit with a Cam Johnson trade. That\u2019s something you\u2019re going to have to keep an eye on for Denver.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nuggets acquired Johnson less than one year ago. After NBA free agency opened up, the Nuggets shipped Michael Porter Jr. and a future first-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets<\/a> in exchange for Johnson.<\/p>\n

The veteran forward was a hot target for contending teams, who watched Johnson flourish into a top option on a rebuilding team.<\/p>\n

In 51 games with the Nuggets, Johnson shot 47.0% from the field and hit 42.7% of his threes, averaging 11.9 points per game. Along with his scoring, the veteran forward produced 3.7 rebounds per game and 2.4 assists per game.<\/p>\n

Johnson has been what the Nuggets expected as of late, but he is far from untouchable. When he wraps up year three of his four-year, $94.5 million deal, Johnson will get set to collect $23.0 million next season. His expiring contract is surely one to keep an eye on, as Johnson is a valuable veteran for any contending team that has a need for shooting.<\/p>\n
