The Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> are facing a defining moment in their season, and LeBron James<\/a> made it clear the team\u2019s response<\/a> must come collectively after losing both Luka Doncic<\/a> and Austin Reaves<\/a> to injuries.<\/p>\n With their top two offensive creators sidelined, the Lakers are suddenly without a combined 56.8 points per game, along with a significant portion of their playmaking and late-game shot creation. The timing could not be more critical, with Los Angeles locked in a tight Western Conference race for playoff positioning.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s always got to be a next-man-up mentality,\u201d James said, via ESPN<\/a>, after practice. \u201cBut there\u2019s no way you can replace that type of impact. So, it\u2019s going to be a collective group. The injury, which typically requires multiple weeks<\/a> of recovery, will keep him out through the remainder of the regular season, with no firm timetable<\/a> established for his return.<\/p>\n Before going down, Doncic had been playing at an MVP-caliber level, averaging 33.5 points, 8.3 assists and 7.7 rebounds. His ability to control tempo, create offense and close games had become central to the Lakers\u2019 identity during their late-season surge.<\/p>\n Reaves\u2019 injury further compounds the problem<\/a>. The guard suffered a Grade 2 left oblique strain after overextending on a rebound attempt during a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder<\/a>. He initially returned to that game and finished with 15 points, but subsequent imaging \u2014 including an MRI that required a repeat scan after an initial error \u2014 revealed a more serious issue.<\/p>\n According to ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania<\/a>, Reaves is expected to miss four to six weeks, placing his availability for the start of the playoffs in doubt.<\/p>\n Reaves had been averaging 23.3 points, 5.5 assists and 4.7 rebounds, serving as a secondary playmaker and scoring option alongside Doncic. The reduced scoring load reflected the increased responsibilities carried by Doncic and Reaves during that stretch.<\/p>\n Now, the expectation is that James will once again become the focal point of the offense.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all have to figure out a way to do a little bit more,\u201d James said. \u201cBut now you\u2019ve got to be even more tightened up on the things that we do.
