However, they have a slim chance of reaching that No. 6 seed depending on how the results of the season’s final games shake out.

Minnesota is currently at the sixth seed in the Western Conference, which would mean avoiding the play-in tournament. A win over Charlotte on Sunday and a Phoenix Suns loss would clinch that sixth seed for them, but winning may have become a bit tougher with a recent update.

More news: UConn Coach Sends 2-Word Message for Michigan Championship Game

<img id="11785488" alt="Anthony Edwards on the Timberwolves bench during game against Golden State Warriors" caption="SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 13: Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves looks on from the bench against the Golden State Warriors in the second half of an NBA basketball game at Chase Center on March 13, 2026 in San Francisco, California. In an update on his playing status released on Sunday afternoon, the team officially ruled Edwards out for tonight’s matchup versus Charlotte.

An MRI last month revealed right knee inflammation for Edwards, and he has played in two of Minnesota’s games since those results.

He played in a March 30 win against Dallas, recording 17 points in 23 minutes. After sitting out a game for patellofemoral pain syndrome and an illness, Edwards played in his team’s loss to the Philadelphia 76ers this past Friday, scoring eight points and shooting 20 percent from the floor in 26 minutes.

This year’s All-Star Game MVP has played in 60 games this season, averaging 28.9 points, five rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, as the Timberwolves are attempting to reach the postseason for their third-straight season.

Other teams looking toward big playoff runs in the Western Conference have also had recent injury woes, with the Los Angeles Lakers recently losing Luka Doncic indefinitely and Austin Reaves for the season. Along with that, the Warriors were without their superstar, Stephen Curry, for over a month, and he just returned to action recently.

It’s unclear how long Edwards might remain out as his team tries to avoid getting a play-in spot, which would potentially make it tougher to reach the NBA Playoffs. However, having Ant-Man back for the postseason would be ideal, rather than risking further injury.

More news: Michigan’s Dusty May Explains Risky Yaxel Lendeborg Decision After Injury

For more about the Minnesota Timberwolves and the NBA, visit Newsweek Sports.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are bracing for a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, as both teams are heading to…

[3782
375,7,473,307,152,3954,6,308
0":"post-699979","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-minnesota-timberwolves","8":"tag-anthony-edwards","9":"tag-basketball","10":"tag-charlotte-hornets","11":"tag-minnesota","12":"tag-minnesota-timberwolves","13":"tag-minnesotatimberwolves","14":"tag-nba","15":"tag-timberwolves
["GET
