The Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a> are gearing up for their matchup against the Charlotte Hornets<\/a> on Sunday, with injury concerns surrounding Anthony Edwards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After returning to action Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a>, Edwards has now officially been ruled out<\/a> for Sunday\u2019s game due to his ongoing right knee issue.<\/p>\n

However, the illness that appeared on the injury report before the loss to Philadelphia is no longer listed in Sunday’s update. Edwards scored eight points on 3-of-15 shooting in 26 minutes against the Sixers.<\/p>\n

This development means Edwards will miss eight of Minnesota\u2019s last 10 games, including Sunday’s against the Hornets, with the franchise still battling for seeding in the Western Conference.<\/p>\n

Minnesota currently sits sixth in the West, holding a four-game edge with five to play to avoid the play-in tournament. On the higher end, the Wolves are two games behind the Houston Rockets<\/a> for the No. 5 seed.<\/p>\n

A win over Charlotte, combined with a loss by the Phoenix Suns<\/a>, would clinch the No. 6 seed for Minnesota.<\/p>\n

Without Edwards and Jaden McDaniels\u2014also listed out for Sunday with left knee patellar tendinopathy\u2014Minnesota will need to rely more heavily on players like Ayo Dosunmu, Donte DiVincenzo, and Mike Conley, while Julius Randle<\/a> is likely to carry the offensive load.<\/p>\n

Through 60 games this season, Edwards is averaging 28.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, while shooting 48.9% from the field and 39.8% from three.<\/p>\n

Edwards was already ineligible for end-of-season awards as he won’t be able to reach 65 regular-season games played this year. He has appeared in 60 matchups, but only 59 of those count, as he didn’t meet the minimum minutes needed in the other one.<\/p>\n

The Wolves and the Hornets game is scheduled for tip-off at 7 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
