PHILADELPHIA — Doc Rivers coached the Philadelphia 76ers for three seasons as he garnered a 154-82 record across three seasons including two 50-win seasons and a 49-win season in 2021 when he led the franchise to the No. 1 seed. Unfortunately, the Sixers were eliminated in the East semifinals in all three seasons and it led to Rivers being fired in 2023.<\/p>\n
Now the coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, Rivers has been coaching for 27 seasons now. He won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and has had a ton of success in his coaching career which has led to him being included in the Hall of Fame class of 2026.<\/p>\n
Sixers star Tyrese Maxey was coached by Rivers in his first three seasons before he was let go, and he still has a strong relationship with the Rivers family. He gave his thoughts on Rivers being named to the Hall of Fame on Saturday.<\/p>\n
“Congrats, Doc, man!” Maxey said. “I’m happy for you, man. I appreciate everything you did for me. The entire Rivers family is like my family now. I talk to Spence (Rivers’ son, Spencer) all the time. So, happy for him. He’s had a great career. He’s still going, and we see them in a couple days, right? I’ll make sure I tell him congrats.”<\/p>\n
The Sixers will host the Bucks in the regular season finale on April 12 so Maxey will have his chance to see Rivers at that time.<\/p>\n
