The Milwaukee Bucks<\/a> have been underwhelming for most of the 2025-26 NBA<\/a> season. Most of it has to do with Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>‘s various injuries, which have limited him to just 36 games. Additionally, the team’s roster doesn’t have any other star outside of Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n

This has made Doc Rivers<\/a>‘ job as head coach extremely challenging. Before the campaign started, the Bucks expected to be in the playoff race. However, they’ll likely finish the season outside of the top 10 standings in the Eastern Conference.<\/p>\n

As of this writing, the Bucks are 11th in the standings with a 31-47 record. The team ahead of them, the Miami Heat<\/a>, has 41 wins. Given that Milwaukee has four games left, they won’t catch up to the Heat and qualify for the Play-In Tournament.<\/p>\n

The Bucks Are Eyeing a Replacement for Doc Rivers\"Milwaukee<\/p>\n

According to Marc Stein of “The Stein Line,” there’s a chance that the Bucks could part ways with Rivers. Stein reported that there is a “growing anticipation” for that to happen.<\/p>\n

After being fired as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> in May 2023, Rivers began working as an unofficial consultant for the Bucks in December of that same year. After Milwaukee fired Adrian Griffin, the one-time champion was named head coach in the middle of the 2023-24 season. Rivers led the team to one playoff appearance, which ended in a first-round loss<\/a> against the Indiana Pacers<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The team has also begun investigating potential candidates for the coaching role. A name that Stein mentioned in his report is former Memphis Grizzlies<\/a> coach Taylor Jenkins. In March 2025, the Grizzlies sacked the former coach. During his time with the franchise, Jenkins led them to three straight playoff appearances.<\/p>\n

There has been a conflict<\/a> between the Bucks and their star player, and Rivers has been caught in the middle. Both sides have opposing statements regarding the injury and recovery of Antetokounmpo. According to Milwaukee, the team doesn’t believe that they are ready to clear the NBA star and that he doesn’t want to play.<\/p>\n

On Friday, however, Antetokounmpo spoke to the media regarding his recovery from a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise. He told reporters that he wants to return before the season ends and that the Bucks are holding him back.<\/p>\n

Amid the clash, Rivers admitted his frustration over the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tough part of all this is I’m in the middle and I have nothing to do with it,\u201d Rivers said<\/a>. \u201cCoaches don’t decide any of this, but the problem with our league is the coaches are the ones sitting out front and we have to sit here and answer this stuff. And I think there are two sides to this.\u201d<\/p>\n

There could be major changes for the Bucks this summer, and Rivers’ future with the franchise is in jeopardy.<\/p>\n
