Rib injuries are painful! There’s basically 5 options: 1. Rib contusion/bruise 2. Rib cartilage injury 3. Rib fracture 4. Rib fracture + rib cartilage injury 5. Rib fracture + organ injury (lung) Best case scenario his X-rays, MRI and CT scan are negative and he has a rib contusion. The Spurs have 3 games left, and I believe he needs to play in 1 of the 3 in order to qualify for the 65-game rule (20+ minutes). If this is anything more than that, he’s likely to miss all 3 games and potentially more depending on the diagnosis and severity.”

GettyVictor Wembanyama #1 of the San Antonio Spurs reacts after defending the shot attempt of Jusuf Nurkic #30 of the Utah Jazz during the game at Frost Bank Center on December 27, 2025 in San Antonio, Texas.

Wembanyama is in the middle of an incredible season where he has established himself as one of the best seven players in the league.

He is averaging 24.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 3.1 blocks per contest while shooting 51.0% from the field and 35.0% from three-point range in 63 games.

Matt Guzman of San Antonio Spurs OnSI wrote: “#Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said it was a positive from his perspective that Victor Wembanyama came back into the game initially, but doesn’t know much on the severity.”

GettyVictor Wembanyama #1 of the San Antonio Spurs in action during a game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat at Kaseya Center on October 08, 2025 in Miami, Florida.

Spurs After 76ers Win

The Spurs are the second seed in the Western Conference with a 60-19 record in 79 games.

They have won nine out of their last ten games (and are 30-7 at home).

Following the 76ers, the Spurs will play their next game on Wednesday night when they remain in San Antonio to host the Portland Trail Blazers.

Ben Stinar Ben Stinar has been covering the NBA for over seven years.

He has written for OnSI, Forbes, Amico Hoops, The Big Lead and had a podcast with former All-Star Jameer Nelson. More about Ben Stinar

   More Heavy on Spurs

    Loading more stories

Getty SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS –
