The team saw a balanced effort in another double-digit triumph. The win gave the Spurs their 30th of the season at Frost Bank Center and the second-most home victories of any team. Only the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder have won more on their homecourt.

However, the win wasn’t the first thing on fans’ mind after the game.

The team received a major scare after Wembanyama was ruled out for the second half. The Spurs big man, an MVP candidate, logged just 15 minutes on the night.

GettySAN ANTONIO, TX -APRIL 6: Victor Wembanyama #1 of the San Antonio Spurs grabs his left arm after an injury during game against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first half at Frost Bank Center on April 6, 2026. (Photo by Ronald Cortes/Getty Images)

After Wembanyama was forced to miss a large chunk of the season a year ago due to blood clots, fans were optimistic Wembanyama could piece together a fully healthy season.

Spurs receive hopeful news on Victor Wembanyama

Wembanyama was banged up after colliding with 76ers star Paul George during a fast-break. The 22-year-old Spurs star tumbled to the ground and took a seat for a while. The air temporarily went out of the building.

Wembanyama got back up but shortly exited to the locker room thereafter. He returned to the game after spending roughly five clock minutes off the court but left the game again with under a minute remaining in the second frame.

Wembanyama was ruled out for the rest of the contest with a rib contusion, which sounds scary and definitely can be, but the injury has a range of severities. The Spurs are hopeful Wembanyama lands on the most minor side of the spectrum.

That could very possibly be the case. According to Jeff Stotts, an experienced injury analyst at InStreetClothes.com, San Antonio may have escaped major injury to Wembanyama.

“Victor Wembanyama Injury News: Spurs may have dodged a bullet here as rib contusions don’t often result in significant missed time (Average ~1.1 games or 4 days),” Stotts wrote on X. “However, ribs can be tricky to x-ray & I’m betting Wemby undergoes a more detailed exam soon.”

How concerned should the Spurs be about their star?

According to Stotts, San Antonio doesn’t have anything major to be worried about, but the Spurs have yet to announce an official update on Wembanyama. News on the star big man may be learned today.

After the game, head coach Mitch Johnson was neutral in tone when asked about Wembanyama’s injury.

“At halftime, I was told he wasn’t coming back and honest to God, I haven’t heard anything else up to this point,” Johnson said.

Johnson did say Wembanyama expressed to him that he could return to the game, which is an encouraging sign. It’ll be interesting to see how Wembanyama feels this morning. The complete effect of an injury is often felt the next day.

As for last night’s game, fortunately the Spurs kept the 76ers at an arm’s distance and took care of business in the second half.

San Antonio has three games to go, and Wembanyama must play at least 20 minutes in one game to remain eligible for postseason awards.

Adel Ahmad Adel is a writer with over five years of experience covering the NBA.
