The Bulls front office faced \u201ca \u2018credibility\u2019 problem around the league and with their own fans\u201d leading up to the ouster of President of Basketball Operations Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley<\/a>, according to sources cited by Jamal Collier of ESPN.com. Sources noted that while the leadership shakeup \u201cseemed swift with a week remaining in the regular season,\u201d ownership had been \u201cmulling the change for weeks,\u201d especially in the aftermath of the team\u2019s dismissal of G Jaden Ivey<\/a> and questions if the team did enough homework before acquiring him last February. Sources added that a \u201cgrowing disconnect\u201d between the front office and the rest of the franchise, with several people across the organization \u201cunsure about the direction of the team after\u202fa surprising trade deadline.\u201d One source said people \u201cdidn\u2019t know the plan,\u201d adding the club needed to move on \u201cwith a clean slate and start this thing over.\u201d Sources added that Karnisovas and Eversley \u201cmaintained throughout the past few years that they were working under the constraints of ownership\u201d (ESPN.com, 4\/6<\/a>). In Chicago, Julia Poe noted with Karnisovas and Eversley removed, Bulls ownership \u201cnow must turn its attention to a slew of upcoming challenges\u201d including retaining coach Billy Donovan, hiring front-office replacements and \u201cdetermining a new direction for the franchise\u201d (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4\/6<\/a>).<\/p>\n

PRESSURE AT THE TOP: THE ATHLETIC\u2019s Jon Greenberg wondered if Bulls CEO Michael Reinsdorf can \u201creverse years of franchise decay by finding a dynamic leader to shepherd this franchise back to relevance or at the very least, the playoffs?\u201d Greenberg added he is \u201cnot convinced.\u201d Locally, the media and a majority of the fan base treat the franchise \u201clike a pi\u00f1ata.\u201d Despite being an international brand in one of the top three media markets, the Bulls are \u201crarely on national TV.\u201d The only time pundits talk about the franchise \u201cis to poke fun at it.\u201d Greenberg: \u201cIt\u2019s up to Michael to lead a search that effects real change\u201d (THE ATHLETIC, 4\/6<\/a>).<\/p>\n

DOING SOMETHING: In Chicago, Paul Sullivan wrote they finally established that the Reinsdorfs can \u201cactually hear what Chicago fans are saying about their two professional teams and the shoddy management decisions that got them into their current predicament.\u201d What we are still \u201ctrying to find out is whether Michael will be able to hire the right person to do something about the Bulls\u2019 mess after being convinced that A.K. was the perfect choice.\u201d As much as Michael Reinsdorf \u201cwants to prove he\u2019s his own man, he\u2019s almost a carbon copy of his father when it comes to loyalty to his people.\u201d Sullivan: \u201cOnly when the franchise has hit rock bottom do they finally throw up their hands and make a decision\u201d (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 4\/6<\/a>).<\/p>\n

TRY TO FIX: YAHOO SPORTS\u2019 Morten Jensen wrote the Reinsdorfs — led by Michael — have a \u201creputation of focusing on the financial aspect more than the actual on-court product.\u201d With fans becoming \u201cincreasingly apathetic and disinterested in the Bulls,\u201d the skeptical approach here is they \u201csaw the firing of Karni\u0161ovas and Eversley as an attempt to lure fans back in, to earn yet another quick buck by dangling the carrot of hope in front of the United Center crowd.\u201d If that is the case, that will not \u201cbe good enough.\u201d Jensen: \u201cThe fan base is more critical than ever, and rightly so.
