Among the topics that the Boston Celtics’ president of basketball operations addressed were recent reports<\/a> that connect him to opportunities, such as the North Carolina head-coaching job. <\/p>\n There have also been rumblings about NBA teams eyeing him to lead their front offices. For example, the Dallas Mavericks reportedly have a wish list<\/a> that includes Stevens, among the other top executives in the league.<\/p>\n However, Tuesday night at TD Garden, Stevens made it perfectly clear that he has no interest in leaving his current situation.<\/p>\n “It’s always flattering, right? When you’re hearing that. But the whole idea of like the coaching carousel being news is a little bit, you know, tiresome,” said Stevens<\/a>. <\/p>\n “But I get why, in this day and age, why people want to talk about it. As you know from being around me, I’m not quick to make decisions where I’m all over the place. I like being here. They’ve been great to me, and I haven’t been seeking anything else. So I don’t have an agent. So, I guess my circle is pretty small.”<\/p>\n Among those Stevens leans on are his wife, Tracy, a contract attorney with a law degree from\u00a0Case Western Reserve University School\u00a0of Law in Cleveland. She has helped with his contract negotiations.<\/p>\n What Brad Stevens prioritizes<\/p>\n Stevens is comfortable in Boston. His children have grown up here, and his family has settled in Massachusetts. He also enjoys the role that he’s in and the people he’s around.<\/p>\n So, while the chance to be the head coach of the University of North Carolina’s men’s basketball team is a prestigious opportunity, and it’s possible an NBA franchise may be willing to offer him an ownership stake to relocate, when one finds a situation that brings them peace and happiness, it’s generally best to hold on to that.<\/p>\n “I don’t see myself — like, I’m not motivated to do anything, but what I’m doing is the bottom line,” stated Stevens. “I’m really happy with the people we’re around and everything else, and that’s been the best part about being here. And really, as you get to this age and stage, I think that’s the motivator for me. I don’t really have any other motivation other than to be around people that I want to be around.”<\/p>\n In Boston, Stevens has a chance to grow into the Celtics’ version of Pat Riley. The former NBA Executive of the Year has already established himself as one of the savviest front-office leaders in the league; from this vantage point, that extends beyond just comparing him to his contemporaries in the Association.<\/p>\n Boston’s president of basketball operations has helped strengthen the culture of a proud organization with a rich history. Remember, he took over in the immediate aftermath of Danny Ainge’s departure and the Celtics’ first-round playoff exit at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. Now, they’re once again showcasing the power of an elite infrastructure<\/a>.<\/p>\n Stevens also appears to already have a strong relationship with Bill Chisholm. The Celtics’ owner has complete trust in the team’s president of basketball operations. It’s not a situation where he is trying to infringe upon the latter’s job or do anything other than empower him. That includes having peace of mind knowing Stevens can make decisions motivated by what is best for the team on the court as they continue to pursue championships.<\/p>\n Between that and loving the company he’s around and the work environment he’s in, it’s easy to understand why Stevens keeps turning down these offers when they come his way.
