Wright<\/a>, Wemby is \u201cdetermined\u201d to ensure he can log at least 20 minutes in one of the Spurs\u2019 final three games to maintain eligibility for end-of-season awards, All-NBA and All-Defensive honors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter undergoing testing Tuesday, Wembanyama was determined to have avoided significant injury and is considered day-to-day,\u201d wrote Wright.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause he played just 15 minutes, 40 seconds in Monday\u2019s game [against the Philadelphia 76ers], it will not count toward eligibility for postseason awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe favorite to win <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/\" title=\"NBA\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"218719\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NBA<\/a> Defensive Player of the Year and a contender for MVP, Wembanyama needs to play at least 20 minutes in one of San Antonio\u2019s remaining three games to maintain eligibility for postseason awards,\u201d added the report.<\/p>\n<p>Victor Wembanyama Injury Update<\/p>\n<p>The one major positive for the Spurs is that they\u2019ve listed Wemby as doubtful for Wednesday\u2019s game against the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nba\/portland-trail-blazers\/\" title=\"Portland Trail Blazers\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"218717\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Portland Trail Blazers<\/a> instead of ruling him out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpurs star Victor Wembanyama is listed doubtful to play in Wednesday\u2019s game against Portland due to a rib contusion but there\u2019s confidence he will play at least one of the team\u2019s final three regular-season games,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/2041636471887872061\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also worth noting that several Spurs players felt encouraged by their interactions with Wemby after he sustained a rib injury in a collision with Paul George during the second quarter of Monday\u2019s win over Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe looked like he was doing good,\u201d defensive ace Stephon Castle said on Monday night of his postgame interaction with Wemby.<\/p>\n<p>Wemby to Play Through Pain?<\/p>\n<p>Some Spurs insiders believe Wemby might have to suffer through the painful rib injury just to secure his first Defensive Player of the Year award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s CONFIDENCE. That\u2019s a strong word when talking about Victor Wembanyama and a bruised rib injury,\u201d Spurs beat writer <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SpursReporter\/status\/2041677748674928719\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Dusty Garza wrote on X<\/a> while reacting to an ESPN report claiming that Wemby was confident about returning amid his injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone who\u2019s had one knows\u2026 Bruised or broken- it all feels the same. Even breathing hurts.
