It\u2019s official: the Wolves are in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, and we can all avoid the psychological warfare that would have been a one-and-done play-in scenario for a team that spent parts of this season flirting with the three seed.<\/p>\n
Given the franchise\u2019s history, and let\u2019s be honest, we\u2019ve seen enough inexplicable meltdowns to last a lifetime, that alone is worth something.<\/p>\n
While we breathe our collective sigh of relief that the Wolves avoided disaster, let\u2019s not forget that they also created the conditions that made disaster possible in the first place. Too many nights where they drifted. Too many games they treated like a Netflix show you half-watch while scrolling your phone. Too many fourth quarters where they convinced themselves they could \u201cflip the switch\u201d, and then discovered, yet again, that the switch doesn\u2019t always work.<\/p>\n

Because as much as slipping to six feels like a missed opportunity, there\u2019s a strange, almost uncomfortable logic to the idea that this might actually help the Wolves, if they handle it correctly.<\/p>\n
This team is banged up. Anthony Edwards has been nursing an inflamed knee. Jaden McDaniels decided to build camaraderie with his bestie by taking on a knee injury of his own. Naz Reid is clearly managing that shoulder. And even Rudy Gobert, who has been the defensive backbone all season, has looked like a guy who could use a few days where he\u2019s not wrestling with 270-pound centers.<\/p>\n
And if the path is Denver?<\/p>\n
Then you don\u2019t need to be 95%. You need to be right.<\/p>\n
Because beating Jokic isn\u2019t about effort. It\u2019s about precision, discipline, and having enough in the tank to survive the mental grind of a seven-game chess match.<\/p>\n
A tired Gobert is not beating Jokic.<\/p>\n
A locked-in, fresh Gobert might.<\/p>\n
So\u2026 What Do You Do Now?<\/p>\n
That\u2019s the tension of this Orlando game.<\/p>\n
On paper, it still matters. The five seed is technically alive. You\u2019re not mathematically eliminated. You don\u2019t just wave the white flag.<\/p>\n

This is another opportunity to sharpen that. Let them handle the ball. Let them create. Let them get comfortable in roles they might need to step into if a series tightens or someone tweaks something. Because if this team is going to make a run, it\u2019s not just about Edwards and Randle. It\u2019s about whether the rest of the roster can hold up when defenses start loading up.<\/p>\n
4. Don\u2019t Completely Turn Off Competitive Instincts<\/p>\n
There\u2019s a danger in \u201caccepting fate\u201d too early. You don\u2019t want to overextend yourself chasing something unrealistic. But you also don\u2019t want to walk into the playoffs having spent a week playing at half-speed.<\/p>\n
