The fan base knows it, and so does Pat Riley. His do-or-die legacy moment for the Miami Heat is quickly approaching.\u00a0This offseason, Riley may get one of his last shots at complete redemption, clothed in a pursuit <\/a>of Giannis Antetokounmpo. <\/p>\n

This summer, if Riley successfully pulls off a move for a superstar player (*cough* Giannis *cough*<\/a>), he\u2019ll be able to finally cement his legacy with the Heat as he inches closer to the end of his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the other hand, if he falls short, Riley could be remembered as the once-successful legend who fizzled out during that latter portion of his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pat Riley may not have another whale-hunting opportunity again <\/p>\n

With so few cracks of greatness left, it\u2019s no surprise that this offseason will emerge as a huge moment for Riley and the Heat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Stuck in mediocrity for the past few years, the urgency for the Heat to make a big move is at an all-time high. And the pressure is mounting for Riley and the front office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

No matter what ends up happening the rest of this season, it\u2019s pretty clear that the stakes are sky high for Riley and the Heat this summer. And there\u2019s going to be a huge development for the front office, one way or another.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Either the Heat is able to break out of mediocrity by making a big move via trade, or they’re going to be forced into a rebuilding state if they strike out again. Something has to give this summer, and you can bet that Riley will be pushing for a franchise-altering trade, with Giannis as the primary target. <\/p>\n

Pat Riley’s career needs a strong punctuation <\/p>\n

The honest truth is that Riley needs a strong punctuation to end his career. While he had the glory days of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh, it’s been slim pickings over the last 12 seasons. <\/p>\n

They had a couple of strong years with Jimmy Butler, but it’s been a decade of mostly mediocrity<\/a> since LeBron left. And the last thing that Riley wants is to go out like this. Because, in many ways, it does feel as if he’s lost his magic. <\/p>\n

A big move this offseason, and specifically one for Giannis, would expel that entire narrative. That’s what Riley is looking to set out to do this summer. <\/p>\n

It’s one thing to be remembered as the executive who helped orchestrate the Heat’s landing of LeBron and Bosh. If Riley were to go on to acquire Giannis, too, there’d be no more debating about his greatness. <\/p>\n

At that point, Riley would be remembered unanimously as one of the best executives in NBA history. Perhaps more importantly, he’d be able to exit into the sunset with the Heat back on top. <\/p>\n

For Riley, this summer is more than just about pursuing another whale. It’s about making the most out of what could be his final shot to cement his legacy as the Heat’s ultimate Godfather.
