In FanSided’s first NBA Mock Draft after March Madness<\/a>, the Indiana Pacers select UNC forward Caleb Wilson with the No. 4 pick.<\/p>\n

It’s not the perfect scenario for Indiana since they wouldn’t be able to land the first overall pick and potentially draft BYU forward AJ Dybantsa (or even Kansas’ Darryn Peterson or Duke’s Cameron Boozer), but this would still be a win for two big reasons: 1) this means got their pick back from the Los Angeles Clippers and avoided a potential disaster, and 2) they draft someone who can be a real game-changer and long-term asset.<\/p>\n

This year’s draft class is so stacked<\/a> that Wilson has sort of gone under the radar, and it’s not totally fair. He is rightfully considered the fourth-best prospect by many in this year’s draft, but it’s more so because of how good Dybantsa, Peterson, and Boozer are. <\/p>\n

If the Pacers walk away from the draft with Wilson, it would still be cause for celebration. It would be like entering a lottery for $1 million and walking away with $750,000 instead. It’s not the ultimate prize, but it’s still something you can brag to your friends about.<\/p>\n

And that’s how Indiana should feel if it ends up drafting the Atlanta native.<\/p>\n

Caleb Wilson can provide a lot of value to the Pacers<\/p>\n

In 24 games at UNC this season, Wilson averaged 19.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 57.8% from the field. <\/p>\n

Wilson has his flaws. He is not much of a three-point shooter (25.9% from deep on 1.1 attempts per game), and he is not much of a versatile offensive player, playmaker, or shot-creator. But his pros heavily outweigh the cons because he excels at so many things you can’t teach.<\/p>\n

The 19-year-old plays with so much energy and has such a high motor that he would fit into Indiana’s system seamlessly. Additionally, he is a monstrous finisher at the rim (largely because of his elite athleticism), and he is a tenacious rebounder. <\/p>\n

But most importantly, he is arguably the best defensive prospect in the draft. And if the Pacers land him, he can help bring that intensity and identity to a team that could desperately use it.<\/p>\n

Wilson is listed at 6-foot-10 and has a seven-foot wingspan. Pair this with his motor, athleticism, and defensive versatility (which are all elite), and he has the tools to be a top-tier defensive specialist at the next level.<\/p>\n

The draft lottery this year is only about a month away, so fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see whether the odds will go in the Pacers’ favor.
