The roster has some staleness to it, and at times, there has been a real disconnect between the coaching staff and the players.

If the Timberwolves aren’t able to advance extremely far in the playoffs, next season could look very different, and frankly, it should.

The only players I am not putting in trade talks if these circumstances come true are Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Joan Beringer, and free agents Ayo Dosunmu and Bones Hyland. I think that whatever the next iteration of Wolves basketball is, it needs to have those guys as rotational pieces.

I’m not saying get rid of everyone else, but Tim Connelly should at least dangle their value on the trade market, as well as ask himself if Chris Finch is the right guy to lead this team to the promised land.

The starting lineup could look a lot different next season if they lose early

If the Wolves are going to make some trades, it makes sense that Julius Randle is someone they shop. He’s on the other side of 30, and the guy playing behind him in Naz Reid just signed a lucrative five-year extension. If they ultimately decide to keep Randle, then shopping Naz makes a lot of sense, because paying someone $125 million over the long term not to start isn’t a smart way to build a roster.

There will also be questions about whether the Wolves can reach their ceiling with Rudy Gobert as their center. He provides so much value on defense, but he can equally cap a team’s ceiling on offense. Then there’s Donte DiVincenzo, who is super valuable to what the Wolves do, but he’ll be an expiring contract next season, so if there’s no extension, then a trade could be in the works.

Ultimately, if the Wolves are a first-round exit, I expect at least two of these four players to be elsewhere next season, as the Wolves will likely either go all-in on a second superstar to pair with Anthony Edwards or retool the roster around his timeline.

There is a real chance Chris Finch gets let go in the same circumstance

The Wolves have been a perennial Western Conference threat the last few seasons. They reached back-to-back conference finals appearances, but could only win one game each in both of those series.

They’ve gotten close to climbing the mountain, but they keep hitting the same roadblock. An early exit this year may spell the end of the Finch tenure, as the Wolves could search for different leadership in the likes of Micah Nori or elsewhere.

If I had to predict how the offseason goes, my best guess is that the Wolves lose to the Nuggets in six games in round one. During the offseason, Chris Finch gets fired, and Micah Nori gets hired. Also, Tim Connelly makes an all-in trade centered around some combination of Randle, Gobert, Reid, and DiVincenzo.

All in all, while a first-round exit seems like a painful outcome on paper, it could force the Wolves to make some much-needed changes.

Based on the way this season has gone, I don’t think it’s crazy to say that the Minnesota…

[3782
7,307,152,3954,6,308
0":"post-705954","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-minnesota-timberwolves","8":"tag-basketball","9":"tag-minnesota","10":"tag-minnesota-timberwolves","11":"tag-minnesotatimberwolves","12":"tag-nba","13":"tag-timberwolves
["GET
