Parting ways with superstar Kevin Durant<\/a> and acquiring Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks<\/a> in return has worked well for the Phoenix Suns<\/a>. In a season where they were expected to take a step back, Devin Booker<\/a> and company have raised their level and are now setting new franchise marks.<\/p>\n

The Suns hosted the Dallas Mavericks<\/a> on Wednesday night at PHX Arena and broke the franchise record for most three-pointers made in a season, surpassing last year\u2019s mark of 1,176 with their 1,177th and counting.<\/p>\n

Entering the game, Phoenix was averaging 14.7 made threes per game<\/a>, the fifth-best mark in the league, while shooting 36.3% from beyond the arc, with young guards Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin playing an underrated role in this historic achievement.<\/p>\n

Across his first three seasons, Goodwin had made just 106 three-pointers. This season alone, however, he has already surpassed that total with 112 made<\/a> threes for the Suns. Meanwhile, Gillespie recently broke a two-decade-old franchise record for most three-pointers made in a single season.<\/p>\n

He set the mark against the Charlotte Hornets<\/a>, knocking down a catch-and-shoot three to reach 227 and surpass Quentin Richardson, who had previously held the record with 226 during the 2004\u201305 season. Richardson also led the league in three-pointers that year while shooting 35.8% from deep and averaging 14.9 points across 79 games.<\/p>\n

Gillespie, now in his second season<\/a> with Phoenix, is averaging 12.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 41.9% from the field and 40.6% from three-point range.<\/p>\n

“It would be special. Definitely something I never thought about, but it’d be really cool to do,” Gillespie said<\/a> last week about potentially setting the record. “Obviously, there’s a lot of great players, and (Richardson) is an awesome player, obviously grew up watching him.<\/p>\n

“It would be a surreal moment for sure, but just got to keep continuing to play the right way, and if it happens, it happens.”<\/p>\n

Alongside them, Phoenix\u2019s core trio of Devin Booker, Brooks, and Green has also delivered. All three are shooting over 31% from three-point range while averaging at least 18 points per game, with Booker leading the way at 25.9 points.<\/p>\n

The Suns held a 61\u201353 lead at halftime against Dallas, and a win would improve their record to 44\u201336 on the season, though it would not significantly impact their position as the seventh seed in the Western Conference.<\/p>\n
