Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid has been diagnosed with an appendicitis, the team announced Thursday. Embiid will undergo surgery in Houston on Thursday afternoon, per the team.<\/p>\n

Shortly after tip-off against the Rockets, the Sixers announced<\/a> that Embiid\u2019s appendectomy, the surgery that removes an inflamed appendix, was successful.<\/p>\n Earlier on Thursday, The Athletic\u2019s Tony Jones<\/a> reported Embiid had been feeling ill Thursday morning and was receiving medical treatment as a result.<\/p>\n Full recovery from an appendectomy can take up to six weeks, per the Cleveland Clinic<\/a>. He missed even more time last month<\/a> with an oblique injury.<\/p>\n This came after Embiid only played in 19 games last season, getting ruled out in February 2025 before undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery<\/a>. Across the past three seasons, Embiid has played 96 of 246 possible regular-season games.<\/p>\n Embiid had only just returned to full form, combining with Paul George for 63 points<\/a> in the Sixers\u2019 win over the Chicago Bulls on March 26. George returned to play last month after serving a 25-game suspension<\/a> for violating the NBA\u2019s anti-drug policy.
