While things don’t look great for the Warriors, their lone reason for optimism is the fact that Stephen Curry has recently returned from a lingering right knee injury.

Curry has missed the majority of the second half of the campaign for Golden State, and when you combine his absence with Jimmy Butler‘s, the team has struggled. With a back-to-back on their hands, the Warriors opted to hold Curry out for their matchup against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night, but it sounds like he, along with several other players, will be on the court for the team’s upcoming matchup against the Sacramento Kings.

Stephen Curry Set to Suit Up vs. the Kings

The Warriors say Stephen Curry and Kristaps Porzingis are both expected to play tonight against the Kings.

This will be their second game on the court together.

Will Richard and Gui Santos are both questionable. Seth Curry is OUT.

A bothersome right knee injury kept Curry off the court for two months from February to April, but when he’s been healthy, he’s remained one of the best players in the league. In 41 games, Curry is averaging 27 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.8% from the field.

The problem is that Golden State simply doesn’t have enough help for Curry. Butler was supposed to be his partner in crime, but he suffered a torn ACL back in January. Regardless of how the postseason unfolds, the Warriors are expected to move on from Butler this offseason in an attempt to different star to town to work alongside Curry.

Anytime Curry can suit up, Golden State is going to have a shot to win. The decision to sit Curry out on Thursday night was simply a precaution because he is expected to play on Friday night against the Kings. In addition to his return, both Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford will play, while Will Richard and Gui Santos are questionable. Curry’s brother, Seth, will not suit up for this one, though.

“The Warriors say Stephen Curry and Kristaps Porzingis are both expected to play tonight against the Kings. This will be their second game on the court together,” Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported in a post on X. “Will Richard and Gui Santos are both questionable. Seth Curry is OUT.”

Warriors Hoping Stephen Curry Can Lead Them to the Playoffs

GettySAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – APRIL 01: Stephen Curry #30 of the Golden State Warriors smiles as he warms up before their game against the San Antonio Spurs at Chase Center on April 01, 2026 in San Francisco, California.

Having Curry back is a nice consolation prize for the Warriors at this point in the season, but it doesn’t change the fact that the Warriors likely won’t be making a deep playoff run this year (and that’s assuming they even make it out of the Play-In Tournament). Still, Golden State has an opportunity to generate some positive momentum heading into the offseason.

Before the front office can focus on its offseason plans, it will likely be curious to see what this team is able to accomplish at full health. Beating up a lowly Kings team won’t exactly be a championship declaration, but it will give this squad a chance to play at nearly full health for one of the first times since the trade deadline. Tip-off for the team’s matchup vs. Sacramento is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET.

Owen Crisafulli Owen Crisafulli is an Email Newsletter Editor & Breaking News Writer at Heavy Sports.
