On Friday evening, the Houston Rockets<\/a> are playing the Minnesota Timberwolves<\/a> (at home) in Texas.<\/p>\n

Kevin Durant<\/a> had 14 points, four rebounds and two assists while shooting 6\/7 from the field in his first 12 minutes of playing time.<\/p>\n

In addition to his strong start to the game, Durant also made NBA<\/a> history.<\/p>\n

Will Guillory of The Athletic wrote:<\/a> \u201cKevin Durant is already up to 10 points in the 1st quarter. He needed 7 coming into tonight to reach 2,000 points this season. He\u2019s officially the first player in NBA history to score 2,000 points in a single season after turning 37 years old.\u201d<\/p>\n

Durant (who is in his first season with the Rockets) came into the night with averages of 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists per contest while shooting 51.8% from the field and 41.4% from three-point range in 77 games.<\/p>\n

He is in his 19th NBA year (and 18th playing).<\/p>\n

The Rockets came into the night with a 51-29 record in 80 games, which has them as the fifth seed in the Western Conference.<\/p>\n

They are in the middle of an eight-game winning streak (and 29-10 at home).<\/p>\n

Following the Timberwolves, the Rockets will play their final game of the 2026 regular season on Sunday when they host the Memphis Grizzlies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Durant was traded to the Rockets (via the Phoenix Suns<\/a>) over the summer.<\/p>\n

He has also spent time playing for the Brooklyn Nets<\/a>, Oklahoma City Thunder<\/a> and Golden State Warriors<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The two-time NBA Champion is looking to help lead the Rockets to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2018 (when James Harden<\/a> was still on the roster).<\/p>\n

Timberwolves Right Now<\/p>\n

The Timberwolves entered play as the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 47-33 record in 80 games.<\/p>\n

They will host the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday at the Target Center.<\/p>\n
