INGLEWOOD, Calif \u2014 Steve Kerr did not hide his feelings on the struggles the Golden State Warriors faced in the 2025-26 NBA season.<\/p>\n
Heading into the year, the Warriors<\/a> were expected to be championship contenders after reaching the second round of the 2025 NBA<\/a> Playoffs, led by Jimmy Butler and Steph Curry. However, both stars missed extended periods, with Butler suffering a season-ending ACL injury and Curry playing just over 40 games due to numerous injuries, including runner’s knee.<\/p>\n Considering how far the Warriors had fallen from the expectations placed on them, Kerr reflected on the year Golden State endured amid injuries and setbacks, including a gruesome injury to a star<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u2022 Shane Lowry gesture to Rory McIlroy after own Masters heartbreak cost him fortune<\/a><\/p>\n \u2022 Rory McIlroy quickly discovers what fellow Masters champion made of his second win<\/a><\/p>\n Before the Warriors’ final game of the season, a clash with the Los Angeles Clippers, the head coach reflected on how difficult the year had been, likening it to the COVID-19-shortened 2019-20 season, when Golden State won only 15 games, and Curry played only five of those matchups.<\/p>\n “Yeah, that season was absolutely bizarre for everybody,” he began when asked by Mirror US Sports on the difficulty of the 2025-26 season. “This season has been tough. I think the expectations were higher for us this year than they were that year after losing Andre [Iguodala], Shaun Livingston, Kevin Durant. It’s a different vibe going into that year.”<\/p>\n While he acknowledged the lofty expectations set on Golden State, Butler’s ACL tear severely limited what the Warriors could accomplish. In Kerr’s words: “That ACL definitely took some wind out of our sails.”<\/p>\n Steph Curry missed an extended period of time with runner’s knee -Credit:Photo by Juan Ocampo\/NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n He added that Moses Moody’s gruesome knee injury also was another gut punch, especially considering how beloved both he and Butler are in the Warriors locker room. “So when you see two guys mid-season go down, and it impacts not only this season but the next one, that’s about as tough as it gets,” Kerr continued. “So for sure it’s been a very difficult season.”<\/p>\n When asked by reporters what lesson he learned amid the trying season, the head coach stated simply: “The lesson is that losing sucks.” He continued by saying, “You know, every year is different. I felt great about our team coming into this year, coming off of the playoff run last year. With Jimmy and Moses out, you know, it obviously changed our season pretty dramatically.<\/p>\n “I think we can win a couple games and get into the playoffs, which would be a great accomplishment, and give ourselves a chance. And that’s the whole focus. But the lesson you take is that you don’t take anything for granted.
