Virginia Tech\u2019s Tobi Lawal, North Carolina\u2019s Seth Trimble and Miami\u2019s Malik Reneau are among the ACC standouts slated to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this week at Churchland High.<\/p>\n
Also among those on the tournament\u2019s eight-team rosters hoping to impress pro scouts: St. Louis\u2019 Robbie Avila, the hefty, goggle-wearing center with a number of nicknames, including \u201cCream Abdul-Jabbar,\u201d \u201cLarry Blurred\u201d and \u201cMilk Chamberlain.\u201d<\/p>\n
The tournament begins Wednesday with 6 and 8 p.m. games and runs daily through Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
Lawal averaged 12.3 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game as a senior this season. The 6-foot-8, 240-pound forward shot 54% from the floor and recorded six double-doubles.<\/p>\n
The 6-9 Reneau was a first-team All-ACC selection after starting all 35 games and averaging 18.9 points, 6.5 rebounds while shooting 54% from the field.<\/p>\n
Trimble, a 6-3 forward, averaged 14 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3 assists for the Tar Heels during his senior season.<\/p>\n
Avila, a 6-10, 240-pounder, scored 12.8 points per game, along with 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. He played his first two seasons at Indian State.<\/p>\n
Two players from Final Four teams committed to play: Kylan Boswell of Illinois and Michigan\u2019s\u00a0Nimari Burnett.<\/p>\n
