Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo enters the offseason with uncertainties about his time with the franchise.<\/p>\n
Following one of the worst seasons in recent history for the Milwaukee Bucks<\/a>, the same question remains. Has Giannis Antetokounmpo played his final minutes with the franchise?<\/p>\n These questions will be answered in the coming months, but Antetokounmpo provided some answers on the uncertainty behind his contract. The Bucks superstar has two years remaining on the deal, with a $62.78 million player option<\/a> for 2027-28. An extension is possible, but whether both sides are willing to negotiate a deal is yet to be determined.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ll see when we get there,\u201d Antetokounmpo said, according to ESPN\u2019s Tim Bontemps.<\/a> \u201cWe have [several] months [until then] \u2026 it\u2019s a long time. But somebody has to offer you that, for you to sign. I haven\u2019t been offered an extension. So, if that is on the table, then I will try to make the best decision for me and my family.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cBut if it\u2019s not on the table, then I have to focus on how can I improve my worth and get on the floor and do what I do.\u201d<\/p>\n Giannis Antetokounmpo\u2019s Falling Out With the Bucks<\/p>\n Giannis Antetokounmpo\u2019s strange relationship with the team he\u2019s called home for the past 13 seasons stemmed in 2024-25. He made his goals public, saying that he wants to be on a team that would be contending for championships.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n The Bucks tried to make the necessary moves, waiving<\/a> Damian Lillard and adding Myles Turner on a four-year, $108 million deal last summer.<\/a> This convinced Antetokounmpo to stay the course in Milwaukee with hopes that the team\u2019s roster will grow back to one of the best in the East.<\/p>\n Fast forward to the beginning of December, the Bucks were four games below .500. Giannis Antetokounmpo and his agent, Alex Saratsis, reopened the conversation of the two sides parting ways once again.<\/a><\/p>\n Ultimately, the same goal was at hand for the Bucks superstar, but the franchise hasn\u2019t delivered on their side of the deal. Antetokounmpo is in a strange spot, just two seasons removed from the three-year extension he signed with Milwaukee that includes a player option in 2027-28.<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cThis is what we have in front of us. I didn\u2019t think we\u2019re going to be in this position last year, so I don\u2019t know what position we\u2019re going to be next year,\u201d Antetokounmpo said.<\/a> \u201cSo, if everything goes well, hopefully, the Bucks want me here, why not? But if they don\u2019t? OK.\u201d<\/p>\n The Uncertain Future of the Milwaukee Bucks<\/p>\n Following the end of the 2025-26 regular season, the Bucks fired head coach Doc Rivers<\/a> after three years with the franchise.<\/p>\n Players on the team and Rivers were on two different wavelengths this season, resulting in a 32-50 record and the coach\u2019s firing. The Bucks missed the Play-In Tournament<\/a> and had their season cut short in April.<\/p>\n Milwaukee missed the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons and will hope to get its first playoff series win since 2022 next season.<\/p>\n Now in the mix for a new head coach, the Bucks have a number of issues to address this offseason.
