SAN ANTONIO \u2013 Game 1 of the Spurs\u2019<\/a> playoff run tips off Sunday, and the team\u2019s fan base is louder \u2014 and more united \u2014 than ever.<\/p>\n

What began as a single, spirited supporters\u2019 section has grown into multiple groups inside the arena, each bringing its own style and energy. <\/p>\n

Among them are the longtime \u201cBaseline Bums\u201d and the newer, high-energy \u201cJackals.\u201d Despite early differences, both share the same mission: fuel the San Antonio Spurs with relentless support.<\/p>\n

For Jacob Esquivel and his father, Pepe Esquivel, that passion is a family affair.<\/p>\n

Jacob Esquivel is a member of the Spurs Jackals and Pepe Esquivel has been a Baseline Bum for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n

The Spurs have long been a bond between the two. Pepe Esquivel raised his son on game nights, bringing him along as a season ticket holder and member of the Baseline Bums.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s come with me to the games, and it\u2019s pretty much how he\u2019s grown up,\u201d Pepe said.<\/p>\n

Last season marked a turning point. As excitement surged around star Victor Wembanyama, a new fan group \u2014 the Jackals \u2014 formed. Jacob Esquivel saw an opportunity to carve out his own role in Spurs culture.<\/p>\n

Now a key member of the Jackals, Jacob Esquivel helps lead the section\u2019s energy \u2014 literally.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the drummer,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have a big bass drum, and I like being the heartbeat of the section. It keeps everybody together and amplified.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the Jackals grew in popularity, some tension emerged between the newer group and the established Baseline Bums \u2014 a clash that reflected generational differences among fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was probably a little bit of animosity,\u201d Pepe Esquivel said. \u201cA little turf \u2014 like, \u2018This is ours, we\u2019re the original supporter group.\u2019 And then from the Jackals, \u2018We\u2019re newer, younger, louder.\u2019 But we wanted to bridge that.\u201d<\/p>\n

That bridge is already taking shape.<\/p>\n

Members of both groups have begun collaborating \u2014 even creating Spurs-themed friendship bracelets \u2014 as a symbol of unity heading into the postseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne team, one city,\u201d Pepe Esquivel said. \u201cWe\u2019re not just the Baseline Bums or the Jackals. We\u2019re all Spurs fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Their shared goal goes beyond sections or labels: to transform the entire arena into a true \u201csixth man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want the whole arena supporting our team and booing the visiting team,\u201d Jacob Esquivel said.<\/p>\n

Different sections. Different styles. Same passion.<\/p>\n

And as playoff basketball returns, Spurs fans are making sure their presence is felt \u2014 together.<\/p>\n
