On paper, it should be a warm-up series for the Pistons on their way to tougher opponents, but 8-seeds have made it all the way to the NBA Finals before, and they might again. How to Watch Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic on\u00a0Sunday Night Basketball<\/p>\n

The Pistons and Orlando Magic Game 1 matchup will kick off NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2026 <\/a>NBA Playoffs<\/a> as the first of several dozen\u00a0NBA on NBC<\/a>\u00a0games over the next several weeks, culminating in NBC’s coverage of the Western Conference Finals. The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 19, live on NBC and streaming simultaneously on Peacock<\/a>.<\/p>\n

NBC’s Noah Eagle will be on the call for the matchup, with analysis from NBA legend Grant Hill and courtside reporting from Ashley ShahAhmadi. What to expect from Game 1 of the Detroit Pistons vs. Orlando Magic<\/p>\n

The Pistons have looked like the team to beat in the East for most of the 2025-2026 season, finishing the regular season four games ahead of their nearest competition (the Boston Celtics) and just four games behind the most dominant force in the NBA, the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder. They’ve gotten this far thanks to one of the league’s best defenses, allowing fewer than 110 points per game in the regular season, and one of the most efficient shooting offenses in the NBA. They seem primed for a long playoff run now that leading scorer Cade Cunningham<\/a> is back from injury, but keep an eye on the status of center Jalen Duren, their best rebounder who’s dealing with a right knee injury. He should be back by tipoff time, but the shape he’s in could greatly impact that Detroit defense’s impact.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As for who they’ll face, well, the Orlando Magic have fought hard to get here, having played their way through the grueling Play-In tournament.
