And managers who snooze on offseason moves and roster shifts can pay the price next season.

Teams both in the playoffs and out of contention are expected to be active when free agency opens on June 30. That means veteran and young players alike could see major usage increases (or decreases) depending on where they land after trades or free-agency decisions. Even the smallest roster tweak could impact a player’s fantasy value.

Here are some rosters set to be retooled, and how fantasy managers should respond to the fantasy basketball 2026-27 rotation changes.

Eastern Conference Teams Facing Major Rotation ShiftsPhiladelphia 76ers

The roster shift has already been forced by Joel Embiid and Paul George’s absences. Tyrese Maxey stepped up huge in 2025-26, and rookie VJ Edgecombe grew into a starter. But, Philly still has a payroll problem. It seems likely the Sixers will focus on acquiring young talent in free agency to build around Maxey, since Embiid’s and George’s max contracts are likely staying pat.

Washington Wizards

We have yet to see what a Trae Young-Anthony Davis starting five looks like. Washington used up its cap space to get both big-name players, who are expected to bolster young players like Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly. The Wizards will also have one of the top picks in the 2026 NBA Draft, so this roster is still very much in flux.

Milwaukee Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future remains the focus in the Badger State, but the Bucks also have a solid list of pending free agents. Plus, they may want to move Bobby Portis Jr’s hefty contract. Milwaukee is expected to be a big seller this summer, which will shift the rotation and have interesting fantasy implications.

Western Conference Teams Poised for OverhaulsMemphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies’ overhaul started at the trade deadline when Jaren Jackson Jr. headlined that major swap with the Utah Jazz. Now, Memphis has to find the right packaging and suitor for Ja Morant. The Grizzlies will be aggressive sellers when free agency opens, and a new rotation (complete with new fantasy implications) is expected to start the 2026-27 season.

Los Angeles Clippers

Unlike the other teams on this list, the Clippers are actually working with some flexibility under the salary cap. (None of the other teams are under investigation for side-stepping the cap either, but that’s another story.) LA needs a quality center and backup for Darius Garland, so the Clippers could be shedding old contracts when free agency opens. Kawhi Leonard’s future is also unknown, which could impact fantasy values.

New Orleans Pelicans

So, the Pelicans say they aren’t getting rid of Zion Williamson, even though he and Derik Queen have bad chemistry. But they have to change something after such a rough 2025-26 campaign, right? Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney, Dejournte Murray, and Herb Jones are just a few trade candidates. It should be an active offseason, whether or not the Pelicans keep Williamson and his hefty contract.

<img alt="Apr 3, 2026; Sacramento, California, USA; New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson (1) during the fourth quarter against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center. Mandatory Credit: Darren Yamashita-Imagn ImagesDarren Yamashita-Imagn Images

Fantasy Strategy for Roster Uncertainty

Roster shifts have big fantasy implications, whether you’re in a redraft league or a dynasty format. As such, managers don’t want to anchor next season’s squad around a player who is on the move.

Instead, keep a close eye on assets whose fantasy stock could rise with an offseason change of scenery. (Some names for you to consider here.) Owners in redraft leagues should monitor evolving rosters through the summer and into training camp. Dynasty managers should prepare for summer trades once free agency opens up.

The Bottom Line on 2026-27 Fantasy Basketball Rotation Changes

Both contending and rebuilding teams alike are projected to make significant roster moves this summer. This will directly reshape playing-time distributions and have an impact on next season’s fantasy rosters. Managers who identify these rotation shifts early will have a clear advantage in building their rosters for the 2026-27 season.

2026-27 Fantasy Basketball Rotation Questions, Answered

Q: Which NBA teams are most likely to see major rotation changes this summer?
A: Several Eastern and Western Conference squads with crowded depth charts, expiring contracts, or new coaching philosophies are poised for significant playing-time shifts.

Q: How do rotation changes affect 2026-27 fantasy basketball values?
A: Players gaining minutes and usage in new systems can see sharp increases in category production, while those losing roles or landing in crowded situations often drop in rankings.

Q: Should dynasty managers trade for players on teams facing rotation overhauls?
A: Yes.
