{"id":713778,"date":"2026-04-19T08:27:29","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T08:27:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/713778\/"},"modified":"2026-04-19T08:27:29","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T08:27:29","slug":"washington-wizards-make-final-call-on-brian-keefes-status-as-head-coach-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/713778\/","title":{"rendered":"Washington Wizards make final call on Brian Keefe&#8217;s status as head coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brian Keefe will be back as the head coach of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportingnews.com\/us\/nba\/washington-wizards\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Washington Wizards<\/a> next season.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said as much during his season-closing press conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah I anticipate Brian Keefe to be here,\u201d was Dawkins&#8217; answer when he was asked a question about Keefe&#8217;s future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Question from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JoshuaBRobbins?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">@JoshuaBRobbins<\/a>: Will Brian return as head coach for next year?<\/p>\n<p>Dawkins: Yea, I anticipate Brian Keefe to be here <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/DjkyR1X5QK\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/DjkyR1X5QK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Wizards Film Room (@KevinFolliNBA) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KevinFolliNBA\/status\/2044803740733977031?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">April 16, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Keefe\u00a0has compiled a record of 43-160 during his two-plus seasons as the head coach in Washington and they were the worst team in the entire NBA this season.<\/p>\n<p>But, when it came to this season specifically,\u00a0Dawkins gave Keefe a pass due to some difficult circumstances.\u00a0So it&#8217;s easy to understand why there was some speculation about his job security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe put him in a situation this season which was a little difficult,&#8221; Dawkins said of Keefe. &#8220;When you just think about the amount of youth [and] the amount of change that we had.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, the Wizards are being patient, for now.
