In a highly competitive Western Conference, the Denver Nuggets enter the playoffs facing a difficult path ahead.<\/p>\n
While sitting at the third seed reflects a strong regular season, it also puts them in line to face multiple top-seeded contenders if series outcomes go as expected.<\/p>\n
Unlike other teams with more favorable matchups, the Nuggets\u2019 road offers little relief. Each round brings a new challenge against teams favored<\/a> to win the championship. This positions Denver as a team facing one of the most difficult paths to the NBA Finals this postseason.<\/p>\n A Difficult Road Ahead for Denver<\/p>\n If the Nuggets were to reach the Finals with favored teams advancing in each round, they would have to go through the Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, and Oklahoma City Thunder before a potential matchup against the Boston Celtics.<\/p>\n Western Conference Matchups<\/p>\n When just focusing on the Western Conference, many of these teams have the Nuggets\u2019 number.<\/p>\n The last time Denver faced the Timberwolves in the playoffs was in 2024, when the series went to a Game 7<\/a> in the semi-finals. The only thing they are lacking is playoff experience.<\/p>\n Spurs did something that you rarely see in the NBA. They flipped the game early with an 18\u20130 run in the first quarter. However, they still present a significant challenge and are the second-favorite to win the title.<\/p>\n If Denver makes it past San Antonio, OKC could be waiting for them.<\/p>\n In last year\u2019s semi-finals against the Nuggets, the Thunder won in seven<\/a> and eventually went on to win<\/a> the championship.<\/p>\n This season, OKC is 64-18 and sitting at the top of the standings. With Shai Gilgeous-Alexander<\/a> leading<\/a> the MVP race yet again, the Thunder are many people\u2019s choice\u00a0to win the championship.<\/p>\n Potential Finals Matchup<\/p>\n If the Nuggets survive the Western Conference, the challenge would not get any easier in the Finals. The Celtics would likely be waiting for them.<\/p>\n Though Jayson Tatum<\/a> only played 16<\/a> games this season, the Celtics have a record of 56-26<\/a>. With Tatum and Nikola Vu\u010devi\u0107<\/a> reestablishing themselves in the lineup, it is set to be a tough series for the Nuggets if the two teams meet.<\/p>\n How Other Paths Compare<\/p>\n When analyzing other teams\u2019 paths, few compare to Denver\u2019s in terms of difficulty.<\/p>\n Most contending teams have a series in their potential run that is heavily favored<\/a>. This is apparent with first-round matchups: Thunder vs. Phoenix Suns, Spurs vs. Portland Trail Blazers, and Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers. Though the Nuggets are the favorites\u00a0in their series against the Timberwolves, these other matchups are far more lopsided.<\/p>\n As long as they\u2019re healthy, I don\u2019t see the Thunder being in a competitive series until the Western Conference Finals. <\/p>\n This team has the ability to be 8-0 heading into the WCF if we\u2019re being honest.<\/p>\n
