SAN DIEGO\u2014UC San Diego women’s basketball is set to participate in the inaugural National University Bill Walton Classic, a new college basketball event celebrating the sport and the city that shaped one of its greatest legends.

\nThe Tritons will face the University of San Diego on Saturday, November 7 at Pechanga Arena in the first game of a double-header, followed by San Diego State men’s basketball taking on an opponent TBA. Game times for both will be announced soon.

\nPresale tickets<\/a>\u00a0are available now with the code\u00a0BWTRITON\u00a0and public tickets go on sale April 24.

\nThe contest will mark the first meeting for UC San Diego and the University of San Diego in women’s basketball since the Tritons transitioned to Division I in 2020 and kickstart a new crosstown rivalry as UC San Diego is set to join the Toreros in the West Coast Conference in 2027-28.

\nAfter two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I. The 24-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 84 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 39 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships.
