Wembanyama was spotted at practice Thursday, walking and talking with Johnson.

“He looks good,” Johnson said Thursday. “We’ll keep going through the protocol and hope he continues to progress. It’s pretty straightforward, so obviously, we hope he’ll be back at some point, and we’ll allow the protocol to play out. There’s nothing more important than his health.”

When asked if Wembanyama has been ruled out for Friday’s game, Johnson added, “We haven’t even had that discussion. The protocol is the protocol and the league is actually who’s at the top of that. … Whatever that timing is, that’s what it will be.”

Wembanyama exited the Spurs’ eventual 106-103 loss in the second quarter Tuesday after falling face-first to the floor while driving to the basket. After lying on the hardwood for several seconds, he appeared to be dazed and groggy when he attempted to stand. Wembanyama later got up on his own, went to the locker room for further evaluation and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

A concussion diagnosis initiates a 48-hour league-mandated recovery period before he can go through a return-to-play evaluation.
