The UConn Huskies ended the 2025-26 college basketball season in disappointing fashion. Entering the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the East Region, they advanced all the way to a national championship appearance. However, their run ended with a 69-63 loss to the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Huskies didn’t have much time to reflect on their loss before needing to navigate the transfer portal. In the 15-day window from April 7-21, UConn had a total of five<\/a> players depart in the portal. After falling just short of a national championship, it’s a considerable number of players to lose.<\/p>\n

However, Dan Hurley and his staff have been hard at work to recoup their losses. In fact, they made a big transfer splash on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Nils Machowski, a 6-foot-3 guard from Berlin, Germany, originally began his collegiate career with the UCF Knights. However, after two seasons in Orlando, he transferred to the Wofford Terriers.<\/p>\n

He just put together his best season, starting 32 games for the Terriers. He averaged 17.2 points<\/a>, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, which all marked career highs. Machowski also shot 43.3% from the field and 38.2% from the three-point line.<\/p>\n

With one more year of eligibility, he once again hit the transfer portal in search of a new team. On Tuesday, he made his decision, committing to UConn, according to Jonathan Givony of Draft Express.<\/p>\n

After putting up career numbers, On3 Industry Rankings<\/a> listed him as a three-star recruit, the No. 97 shooting guard and the No. 400 player to hit the portal this offseason.<\/p>\n

Machowski marks the fourth transfer player that UConn has landed a commitment from. He joins forward Oskar Giltay (Stanford Cardinal), Nik Khamenia (Duke<\/a> Blue Devils) and Najai Hines (Seton Hall Pirates).<\/p>\n
