The NBA<\/a> Draft is just 10 days away, and the Dallas Mavericks<\/a> are still without a general manager. While they have been actively searching for a top executive, their latest pursuit has suffered an unfortunate setback.<\/p>\n

Following the firing of Nico Harrison in November of last year, Dallas has yet to announce a full-time replacement. Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi are currently serving as interim GMs for the team. However, time is running out as the NBA Draft approaches.<\/p>\n

Several well-known executives, including former Warriors GM Bob Myers<\/a>, have been linked to the role. The latest name on the list is Timberwolves<\/a> president of basketball operations Tim Connelly. However, that possibility may also be shut down following the latest development.<\/p>\n

According to Marc Stein, the Mavericks\u2019 request for permission to speak with Connelly will most likely be denied by the Timberwolves. Hired in 2022, the Minnesota executive played a key role in acquiring Rudy Gobert<\/a>. Connelly is currently on a five-year, $40 million contract<\/a> with the Wolves.<\/p>\n

Prior to his current role, Connelly held the same position with the Denver Nuggets<\/a>. Nikola Jokic<\/a>, Jamal Murray<\/a>, and Michael Porter Jr.<\/a> were all drafted under his leadership. He continues to make a similar impact in Minnesota.<\/p>\n

For Connelly to leave a team that has grown significantly over the past few seasons would be a bold move. However, the Mavericks are also desperate, as they need someone who can guide them through a challenging period. A major offer from Dallas could be expected, but only if the Timberwolves allow it.<\/p>\n
