The Dallas Mavericks traded <\/a>Anthony Davis<\/a> to the Washington Wizards<\/a> at the 2026 NBA trade deadline. While the move wasn\u2019t nearly as shocking as when Davis was included in the prior Luka Doncic trade<\/a>, it was still a massive and somewhat surprising move. The deal proved that Dallas was trying to completely move past the disaster that was the Doncic deal, and it showed that Washington was ready to go from league bottom-dwellers to Eastern Conference playoff contenders. While the Kentucky product is often-injured, he is still one of the best players in the NBA<\/a> when healthy, and the Wizards weren\u2019t the only suitors for his services ahead of the trade deadline.<\/p>\n

Jake Fischer reported that the<\/a> Portland Trail Blazers<\/a> also submitted a trade proposal to Dallas. Jerami Grant<\/a> would have been the headliner in that deal, and he is arguably more talented than any of Marvin Bagley<\/a>, AJ Johnson<\/a>, Khris Middleton<\/a>, or Tyus Jones<\/a>, whom Dallas received from the Wizards. Ultimately, the Mavericks opted for a package that included draft capital, and they didn\u2019t want to take on Grant\u2019s contract, which will pay him over $30 million in each of the next two seasons.<\/p>\n

A Davis acquisition by the Trail Blazers might not be quite out of the realm of possibility, though. Davis didn\u2019t suit up for the Wizards after the trade because of a hand injury. The former number one overall pick also has extension talks looming. While fellow pre-trade deadline acquisition Trae Young<\/a> is believed to be a part of the Wizards\u2019 long-term plans, Chris Haynes believes there is a scenario where Washington opts to flip Davis in another trade before he even puts on a Wizards jersey.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s at a place right now where he can\u2019t afford to play two years and not compete,\u201d Haynes said regarding<\/a> a potential Davis trade. \u201cI do think there\u2019s a good chance that he may end up somewhere else by the time next season starts.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite their recent trades, the Wizards are still rebuilding, and their star big man is only getting older. If contract talks don\u2019t go according to plan, perhaps the Wizards will opt to trade Davis<\/a>, and if the Trail Blazers don\u2019t execute in their pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo,<\/a> they could be a contenders to add him.<\/p>\n
