The final structural beam is in place for the Charlotte Hornets\u2019 new practice facility.<\/p>\n
Channel 9\u2019s DaShawn Brown was there for the milestone, one that signifies progress in more ways than one.<\/p>\n
This was a moment 13 months in the making.<\/p>\n

From Charlotte Hornets leaders and staff, to the construction crews themselves, all were there to mark a pivotal step in the future of the franchise.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve gone from kind of a forgotten team without a clear path and culture to a team with a really strong foundation,\u201d said Hornets Co-Chairman Gabe Plotkin.<\/p>\n
Monday morning, the Hornets and Novant Health raised the final beam on the Novant Health Performance Center. It\u2019s set to open in spring of 2027 and features more than 160,000 square feet for training, office space, shops, and an orthopedic and sports medicine clinic that\u2019s open to the public.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do believe that there is just a process to showing up everyday, and kind of like this building, it\u2019s unfinished,\u201d Hornets Head Coach Charles Lee said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s how I feel about our team.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTo see it actually manifest is special. Special to be a part of it,\u201d said Hornets forward Grant Williams. \u201cIt\u2019s been an honor to represent the city and I\u2019m excited to hopefully be one of the first to step into the practice facility too because I know what the top of my mind whenever it opens, I\u2019m going to be spending a lot of time there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Much like the crews currently constructing the performance center, the Hornets are also building.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were ahead of expectations,\u201d said Hornets Co-Chairman Rick Schnall. \u201cThe team came together more quickly. We had expectations that we would be competitive, but obviously from the beginning of the year when we started winning, we were among the best teams in the league.\u201d<\/p>\n
