On Monday evening, the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> dropped Game 1 of their second round playoff series against the New York Knicks<\/a> in blowout fashion, losing 137-98 on the road. The 76ers fell behind early in this one and were never able to make things interesting after halftime, showing some possible fatigue after their Game 7 road win vs the Boston Celtics<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Throughout the evening, the 76ers were unable to stop Jalen Brunson<\/a>, who scored 39 points on the night for the Knicks, and after the game, Philadelphia wing Kelly Oubre<\/a> had an interesting explanation<\/a> for why Brunson was so difficult to defend.<\/p>\n

\u201cOubre says Brunson \u2018has a big head.\u2019 Claims he is hard to guard because people get hit by his braids,\u201d reported Barbara Barker of Newsday on X, formerly Twitter.<\/p>\n

Whatever the reason was, the 76ers weren\u2019t able to find much success defending Brunson on Monday night, as the All-Star guard got seemingly wherever he wanted to on the floor, splashing threes, burrowing into the paint, and finding his teammates open on the perimeter for good looks.<\/p>\n

The Knicks have now led by at least 30 points in three straight playoff games dating back to their first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks, and they also won the game before that streak started in comfortable fashion against Atlanta<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the 76ers will need to find some answers quickly in order to avoid falling into an 0-2 hole against New York, although they should take some comfort in the fact that they were similarly blown out in Game 1 of their last series against the Celtics, and still came back to advance to the next round.<\/p>\n

In any case, Game 2 of the 76ers vs Knicks series is slated to get underway on Wednesday evening, once again from Madison Square Garden in New York.<\/p>\n
