Sunday\u2019s draft lottery was disastrous for the Nets, who fell from third in the pre-lottery order \u2014 tied with three other teams for the best chance at landing No. 1 \u2014 to sixth overall. Several reporters<\/a> described owner Joe Tsai, Brooklyn\u2019s drawing room representative, as appearing \u201cdespondent<\/a>\u201d after the drawing occurred.<\/p>\n

According to Brian Lewis of The New York Post<\/a> (subscriber link), the onus is on general manager Sean Marks to figure out a way to make the best of the situation after Brooklyn dropped in last year\u2019s lottery as well, falling from sixth to eighth and selecting Egor Demin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Two league sources told Lewis the Nets will look to move up from sixth, but it remains to be seen how that will play out. Rival executives believe the Clippers could be open to moving down from No. 5, Lewis adds.<\/p>\n

While Marks said the Nets would be \u201copportunistic\u201d and \u201clook at everything\u201d regarding the possibility of moving up, he wasn\u2019t sure that landing at sixth would necessarily make the team more aggressive on the trade market.<\/p>\n

\u201cHard to tell. It\u2019s all about how these guys develop,\u201d Marks said, per Lewis. \u201cI don\u2019t think you want to make rash decisions before you\u2019ve seen how they look. We all know there\u2019s a group in this draft that could be game-changers; but I said could be because you never know. You get whether it\u2019s six months from now or two years from now and there\u2019s always surprises.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo every draft there\u2019s a guy who people didn\u2019t quite expect to be [that good] if you do the redraft. So for us, it\u2019ll be still about having patience. But at the end of the day, we\u2019ve got optionality. We\u2019ve maintained flexibility, we\u2019ve got the cap space and assets. So the word would be opportunistic.\u201d<\/p>\n
