The Minnesota Timberwolves don\u2019t have any more time or games to waste. Tonight<\/a> at Target Center, the Wolves face elimination for the first time this postseason, down 3-2 in their second round series against the San Antonio Spurs.<\/p>\n

After going 49-33 in the regular season, and knocking off the Denver Nuggets<\/a> in round one, the MN Timberwolves will have to win two straight against Victor Wembanyama and his Spurs, in order to advance to the Western Conference Finals for the third time in as many seasons.<\/p>\n

In order to extend this series to a Game 7, superstar Anthony Edwards will need more help. One player who could logically provide more assistance been is 2024 No. 27 overall pick, Terrence Shannon Jr.<\/p>\n

When Edwards went out with injury against the Denver Nuggets, it was Terrance Shannon Jr. who stepped up to score 15 points in Game 5 and 24 points in Game 6, heavily influencing two victories that eliminated Denver from the playoffs. He also had a big Game 1 in San Antonio, another Wolves win.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Shannon Jr. has taken a step back offensively against the Spurs the last few games, scoring a total of just 15 points between games three, four and five. Given the stakes Friday, the Wolves were hoping for a bounceback performance from the 25-year-old<\/a> in Game 6.<\/p>\n

Of course, that means he has to be suited up and available to play, which is no longer a given, according to the Minnesota Timberwolves\u2019 pregame status report, which listed the high-voltage youngster as \u201cquestionable \u201cQuestionable\u201d for tonight\u2019s win-or-stay-home matchup at Target Center.<\/p>\n

Because Anthony Edwards is working on 1.5 legs in this series, and coming off a long injury break right before the start of the playoffs, Ant\u2019s been struggling to dribble drive past defenders and avoid double teams, like we have seen him do most of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves.<\/p>\n

Their superstar\u2019s injury issues, along with the absence of Donte DiVincenzo (rupturing achilles<\/a>), forced head coach Chris Finch to finally play Terrence Shannon Jr. It worked like a charm early, but hasn\u2019t been as successful lately.<\/p>\n

Terrence Shannon Jr. an injury concern for MN Timberwolves<\/p>\n

In five games against the Spurs, Shannon Jr. is averagine 25.0 minutes per game<\/a>, with the 35 minutes he put up in Game 1 being the most he has played so far.<\/p>\n

A head contusion is defined<\/a> as a bruise on the scalp (superficial) or bruise on the brain tissue itself (cerebral). Given that the Timberwolves didn\u2019t note this as a concussion, tells us he\u2019s probably already passed any concussion protocol testing mandatory for all head injuries.<\/p>\n

Shannon Jr. must have bumped his head over the last 24 hours. Off the bench, Shannon Jr. has averaged 10.6 points per game for the MN Timberwolves this series. If he plays the MN Timberwolves need him to be more efficient than the 38% he\u2019s been shooting from the field (24.1% from deep).<\/p>\n

On a more positive note, it appears as though Anthony Edwards will be all systems go again, as he\u2019s not listed on the injury report. Hopefully these two days of rest have worked wonders on his knee, but don\u2019t get your hopes up.<\/p>\n

While he hasn\u2019t been his normal ultra-dynamic self, Ant is still the Wolves\u2019 best player, and it isn\u2019t close. They go as he goes. That\u2019s been a problem this series, given he isn\u2019t 100%.<\/p>\n

Now on the brink of elimination, Edwards needs to be at his best. But the MN Timberwolves would at least like to have Terrance Shannon Jr. available to Chris Finch, as well.<\/p>\n
