Giannis.<\/p>\n

In the rumor mill, Mark Spears from Andscape had a very interesting quote on ESPN on Monday morning where he said, “I basically was told by a very good source close to the Washington situation that they’re going to explore their options, and I think with some of that young talent that they have, why not Wright?”<\/p>\n

Why not Wright refers to going for Giannis Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n

He has reported that the Wizards are a team that could pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo.<\/p>\n

I don’t think from my conversations, to be clear, just to make– If Wizards fans are nervous, I’ve been told that that would not involve the number one pick.<\/p>\n

Obviously, things could change.<\/p>\n

That’s not certain.<\/p>\n

We got a long way to go until the draft, a little less than a month now.<\/p>\n

But I don’t believe that this is the number one pick.<\/p>\n

I think from my conversations, if the Wizards go for Giannis, it’s more like Anthony Davis and future picks and youth.<\/p>\n

They have tradable assets, young players they could give up.<\/p>\n

They have like Trey Johnson.<\/p>\n

Maybe you would give up Alex Sarr, right?<\/p>\n

Like who was formerly a number two pick.<\/p>\n

They have young players, they have a lot of future picks, and they have a, a matching salary in Anthony Davis, and he doesn’t even wanna be there anyway.<\/p>\n

So for the Wizards, I think there could be something to this if they decide to go that route.<\/p>\n

I would anticipate that if Giannis were to say, “Hey, we have a deal on the table with the Wizards that we’re willing to accept,” he’d look at that team and see Trae Young, the number one pick, and whatever other leftover pieces they have and say, “I want another guy to be there.”<\/p>\n

I would imagine that he– that’s what he would want to say.<\/p>\n

Very similar to back during the 2007 summer when the Celtics wanted to go get Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves.<\/p>\n

Garnett did not wanna go to Boston until after the Celtics got Ray Allen.<\/p>\n

Then once they got Ray Allen, suddenly he’s like, “Hmm, join Ray Allen and Paul Pierce?<\/p>\n

Ah, I’d like to do that.”<\/p>\n

So we’ll see here.<\/p>\n

I just don’t think the number one pick would be on the table for the Wizards in a Giannis trade.<\/p>\n

That would shock me if that were to end up happening.<\/p>\n

But al- this also speaks to just why the Bucks waited.<\/p>\n

The Wizards weren’t gonna trade for Giannis in January or February, but more suitors appearing in the summer, that very well might be exactly what’s happening here.<\/p>\n
