The team has agreed to a deal to bring Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Mike Gansey into that role, per <a data-ylk=\"slk:ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;cpos:1;pos:1;\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/ShamsCharania\/status\/2060468829893935180?s=20\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gansey, 43, will replace Daryl Morey, <a data-ylk=\"slk:who was fired by the 76ers;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;cpos:2;pos:1;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;outcm:mb_qualified_link;\" href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/nba\/breaking-news\/article\/76ers-part-ways-with-daryl-morey-after-another-disappointing-season-head-coach-nick-nurse-to-remain-with-philadelphia-235049927.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">who was fired by the 76ers<\/a> earlier this month after six years with the franchise. Philadelphia made the move after another disappointing, disjointed season ended with a 45-37 record and a second-round sweep at the hands of the New York Knicks.<\/p>\n<p>The team opted to retain head coach Nick Nurse. Bob Myers, the former GM of the Golden State Warriors who now works as president of sports for the 76ers\u2019 parent company, headed up the search for Morey\u2019s replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Gansey has been with the Cavaliers\u2019 front office since 2011, moving up the ranks. He earned the G League\u2019s Executive of the Year award in 2017 while serving as GM of Cavs affiliate the Canton Charge and became assistant general manager under Koby Altman shortly afterward.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, when Altman was promoted to Cleveland\u2019s president of basketball operations, he <a data-ylk=\"slk:appointed;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;cpos:3;pos:1;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nba.com\/cavaliers\/mike-gansey-elevated-cavaliers-general-manager\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">appointed<\/a> Gansey as the team\u2019s new GM. Together, the two of them guided the Cavaliers through the post-LeBron James era and turned them into fringe contenders in the East. In the four years since Altman and Gansey were promoted, Cleveland made the playoffs four times.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Gansey will join the Sixers\u2019 front office with the hopes of turning things around again.
