It’s one of those places we’ve all been to, some more than others, and everybody has their regular order. For me, if I’m heading out on a long road trip and getting an early start, give me a couple of sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast burritos. They’re easy, they travel well, and they hit the spot as you settle in for a few hours on the road. If it’s not a road trip? Two double cheeseburgers and two spicy McChickens, hold the mayo. Sweet and sour sauce on the side. Perfect.

If you happened to roll through the drive-thru in Sedona on Friday, though, there’s a chance your order looked a little different. And there’s an even better chance that Devin Booker was the one handing it to you at the window.

Why was Devin Booker working the drive-thru on an otherwise normal day at McDonald’s? That’s where Booker chose to unveil his newest shoe release, the Nike Book 2 Sedona.

The shoe carries that same iconic teal color you see on the arches in Sedona. And that’s what makes it so unique. That location is the only McDonald’s in the world without the traditional yellow arches. The city wanted something that blended more naturally with the surrounding red rocks and desert tones, so the arches took on that earthy teal color.

Booker teamed up with McDonald’s for the Sedona inspired release, unveiling two colorways. One came dressed entirely in teal. The other featured a beige base with teal accents. Both pairs carried the iconic McDonald’s double arches logo.

Booker has always done a fantastic job with shoe releases.

From the Forrest Gump-themed rollout for the Book 1 Nike Cortez homage to the “License to Skill” campaign tied to the debut of the Book 2, he clearly puts real thought and effort into these drops. He’s known for popping up in different places too, something he did when his first signature shoe debuted ahead of All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. From Indy to downtown Phoenix, Paris to Flagstaff, Booker loves doing his Finders Keepers campaigns.

One of the cooler touches with this release was the packaging. The boxes looked like Big Mac containers, all done in teal to match the shoe and tie back to that Sedona McDonald’s. It was a smart detail.

It’s another reminder of Booker’s connection to Arizona. He’s released shoes inspired by the red rocks of Sedona before with the Book 1 Sedona colorway. He’s done green pairs as a nod to Flagstaff, the place he calls home in the offseason. He’s leaned into Arizona sunrises and sunsets too, pulling inspiration from the colors that define the state.

We all have our hobbies. Devin Booker’s happens to be releasing sneakers that pay tribute to the different parts of his life. And after 11 seasons in the Valley, there’s no doubt he’s fallen in love with the Grand Canyon State.

After 11 seasons in Phoenix, Arizona clearly isn’t just where he plays basketball anymore. It’s become part of who he is. That connection shows up in the details, from Sedona’s teal arches to the colors of Flagstaff and desert sunsets. It’s thoughtful, it feels authentic, and it’s another reminder that Booker’s relationship with the Valley goes well beyond what happens between the lines.

What’s your go-to order when you visit McDonald’s?
