Sixth Man of the Year runner-up Jaime Jaquez Jr.<\/a> says he\u2019s trying not to pay attention to the trade chatter<\/a> involving Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a>, writes Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Jaquez has been working out recently at the Heat\u2018s arena, but he\u2019s currently in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil for an NBA event connected to the Finals, according to Winderman. The 25-year-old\u00a0forward is rumored<\/a> to be part of Miami\u2019s offer for the Bucks superstar.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like it\u2019s just the way it is on the Miami Heat team,\u201d Jaquez said of the speculation amid management\u2019s annual search for upgrades. \u201cI think that it\u2019s kind of normal. I\u2019ve been here for, what, three years now? And every summer there\u2019s a big rumor. So I\u2019ve kind of just gotten to get out of the country and, you know, see new things.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaquez, a former first-round pick (18th overall in 2023), will be eligible for a rookie scale extension this summer. The versatile forward said he\u2019d love to sign a long-term deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, I think that\u2019d be incredible,\u201d Jaquez said. \u201cI think people always talk about it\u2019s not the first contract, it\u2019s the second one that really sets you up for a great life after basketball.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been great so far, the year that I\u2019ve been having, the years that I spent in Miami. And I think an extension would be great, obviously. That\u2019s what players search for, and I\u2019m no different.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a mailbag for The Miami Herald, Anthony Chiang<\/a> answers a question about why the Heat are willing to possibly impact their future by pursuing Antetokounmpo. As Chiang observes, Miami currently has six of its own first-round picks (Bam Adebayo<\/a>, Tyler Herro<\/a>, Nikola Jovic<\/a>, Jaquez, Kel\u2019el Ware<\/a> and Kasparas Jakucionis<\/a>) on the roster but none of those players were selected higher than 13th overall and none have the potential to raise the team\u2019s ceiling like the two-time Bucks MVP.
\nThe Hornets control two first-round picks (Nos. 14 and 18) in June\u2019s draft. Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer<\/a> examines the players who have been selected at those two spots over the past 10 years, with Adebayo (14th in 2017) being the most accomplished at the NBA level.
\nA lawsuit against Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball<\/a> is moving closer to trial, per Hank Lee of WCNC Charlotte<\/a>. Ball allegedly injured a child\u2019s foot with his car as he was leaving the Spectrum Center after a team scrimmage in October 2023. The plaintiff, the child\u2019s mother, is seeking $3.75MM in damages, according to Lee, who says Ball has denied the allegations.
