All of a sudden, it seems as if the Golden State Warriors<\/a> have become a real threat to acquire LeBron James<\/a> this summer as a free agent. Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints reported this week that Stephen Curry<\/a> is planning on meeting with<\/a> James to discuss possibly teaming up on the Warriors.<\/p>\n

James and Curry have been good friends, especially since the two helped Team USA win an Olympic gold medal in 2024, and James is also tight with Warriors forward Draymond Green<\/a>. On paper, a core of James, Curry, Green and six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler<\/a> looks impressive, but former NBA player Chandler Parsons<\/a> doesn’t think<\/a> Golden State would win it all with the four-time MVP (h\/t Lakers Daily<\/a>).<\/p>\n

\u201cSure, but do they win a championship? No,\u201d Parsons said of the idea of James and Curry teaming up. \u201cWe\u2019re talking the Western Conference with [San Antonio<\/a>] Spurs<\/a>, OKC, Denver<\/a>, Houston<\/a>, Lakers<\/a>, Minnesota<\/a>. They\u2019re not gonna be better than most of those upper-echelon teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, it would be awesome. It\u2019d be incredible to see Steph and Draymond, LeBron James wear a jersey in that arena for Steve Kerr. I think it\u2019d be a cool story. I don\u2019t think it moves the needle for the Warriors to be a championship contender, though, at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

This season, Golden State went 37-45 and was without Curry and Butler for long stretches due to injury. The feeling around the league is that the franchise’s dynasty is definitely over, even though Curry is still playing at a superstar level. Overall, the team’s roster is long in the tooth, and Green has a $27.68 million player option for next season.<\/p>\n

James, who averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists a game during the regular season, is still very much a superstar by NBA standards, even at age 41. This was his record 23rd season in the NBA, and he appears to have enough left in the tank for at least one more high-level campaign in the league.<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> can offer more money than any other team James will seriously consider going to in order to keep him. But if James’ main goal is to play with his friends and form another superteam, that advantage L.A. has may not matter much.<\/p>\n
