Trae Young has played just five games in a Washington Wizards uniform, and that could be the extent of his time with the team. <\/p>\n

According to NBA insider Jake Fischer<\/a>, Young is considered to be a “big fish” get for the Miami Heat if they are outbid in the race for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. <\/p>\n

Fischer also noted that Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard and Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant are on the Heat’s radar. <\/p>\n

The Atlanta Hawks\u00a0sent Young to Washington<\/a>\u00a0in January, and the two sides reportedly were expected to have extension talks soon after the trade.<\/p>\n

Fischer noted that “the prevailing sentiment” is that Young will stay with the Wizards and sign a new long-term deal, but “there are a few teams” that have toyed with the idea of pursuing the point guard.<\/p>\n

Young has a $49 million player option for the 2026-27 campaign, which he would need to exercise before June 23 for a trade to happen. It’s worth noting that June 23 is the first day of the NBA draft, and the Bucks reportedly are\u00a0expected<\/a>\u00a0to trade Antetokounmpo before then.<\/p>\n

Though there wasn’t a huge market for Young when the Hawks traded him in January, Fischer noted that the NBA’s new flattened lottery odds could lead to a changing landscape when it comes to players like Young.<\/p>\n

Since teams will be looking to avoid a bottom-three record, which would give them just a 5.4 percent chance to get the No. 1 pick, there is a bit of pressure to build a win-now roster rather than playing for the lottery.<\/p>\n

Young perhaps isn’t the kind of player who can will a team to a championship, but he could help a squad like, say, the Sacramento Kings or Brooklyn Nets, avoid a disastrous record that would leave them with a slim chance of coming away with the top pick.<\/p>\n

Young, still just 27 years old, played just 15 games last year, but in his last healthy season, he put up 24.2 points and 11.6 assists per game.<\/p>\n
