Re: “Ye announces San Antonio concert date this summer,” ExpressNews.com, June 15:

Article continues below this ad

Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has repeatedly proclaimed his love for Adolf Hitler and his hatred for Jews.

He flaunts his contempt for American ideals by scheduling a concert at the Alamodome on the Fourth of July, our national holiday.

During World War II, more than 400,000 Americans died fighting the Nazism that Ye said he adored.

On Independence Day, we can celebrate the freedom of a country that allows even miscreants such as Ye to perform in public, but we are also free to shun him.

Article continues below this ad

Blurred lines at school

The religious right is warning us about Shariah taking over parts of the U.S., but the Constitution strictly prohibits this.

Article continues below this ad

Yet the line of religious freedom keeps getting blurred.

Davenport High School violated the Constitution two weeks ago when the baseball team wore shirts with “Jesus Won” across the front.

The Constitution prohibits public schools from pushing religion.

Article continues below this ad

Spurs’ story not over

I remember watching Phil Jackson, the coach of the Chicago Bulls and later of the Los Angeles Lakers, as they played our Spurs and his analysis of former Spurs coach Gregg Popovich each time after a playoff game. It was not very flattering. That coach compared Popovich to a nonprofessional.

Now, sports analysts are calling the Spurs coach names again. Thank God we had ownership who stayed with Popovich, and I pray that we still have ownership who will stay with our current coach.

This is Mitch Johnson’s first year in the NBA playoffs and Finals.

Article continues below this ad

Coach Pop was not born a great NBA coach. He learned his trade by repeatedly getting to the NBA playoffs, and each time he failed, he learned to be a great coach.

Have faith, people. Yes, Johnson and the Spurs can still win it all.

Article continues below this ad

Ready for next season

The Spurs did not win the championship, but they won the hearts of a city that clearly loves the San Antonio Spurs. We won by showing other cities how we can celebrate without burning down the city or destroying property.

Article continues below this ad

We won by having a new young coach who will continue the winning attitude of former coach Gregg Popovich.

We won when we went to the polls and voted to redevelop the downtown area with a new arena.

We won by introducing people from around the world to what San Antonio, a great city, has to offer.

Thank you to everyone in the Spurs organization for giving us so much to cheer about.

Article continues below this ad

We can’t wait to see what 2027 will bring.

Have a response?
