With Brooklyn not in control of their first-round pick in 2027, it seems that they are trying to improve as much as possible this summer and it looks like they’re thinking big.

“League sources told The Post that the Nets are more likely to use the space in trades than chasing free agents,” Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote when explaining what others believe the Nets are going to do this offseason. Brooklyn is projected to be one of just a few teams that have significant cap space this summer and given that’s the case, they could use their cap room to get some favorable and/or players not available in free-agency.

“Cap experts Bobby Marks of ESPN and Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron agreed that’s where the value is,” Lewis continued before revealing who the Nets could be targeting through either method. “The Nets have shown interest in New Orleans’ Trey Murphy III and Oklahoma City’s Cason Wallace, and there was even a report linking them to Boston’s Jaylen Brown.”

As Lewis mentioned, the Nets have already been linked to players like Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown and New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III in the past, but Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cason Wallace is a new addition to that list. While acquiring Brown or Murphy would require substantial offers, Wallace could be had for a solid price, especially with the Thunder in the midst of a financial crunch.

“There is a belief around the league that Wallace is open to leaving OKC, and he’s up for a big extension the Thunder might be loath to pay,” Lewis wrote on the prospect of the Nets trading for Wallace if Oklahoma City is willing to part with him. “The young guard would cost multiple first-round picks but be the point-of-attack defender the Nets need.”

Need a news break? Check out the all new PLAY hub with puzzles, games and more!

Wallace, 22, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 8.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 43.2% from the field and 35.1% from behind the three-point line. The Nets could have as much as $40 million cap space depending on how the Julius Randle trade shakes out financially and if that is the case, Brooklyn may be able to afford adding someone like Wallace, or the aforementioned Brown or Murphy, to the roster.

June 29, 2026, 10:52 p.m. ET The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a disappointing 2025-26 NBA season in…

[3796
72400,7,6,478,470,4073,4072,1100,675,90178,72503,72504,72404,72507,72505,72979,72860,72444,72422,72570,72429,72484,72445,72406,72753,72403
post-774253","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-orleans-pelicans","tag-accessfree","tag-basketball","tag-nba","tag-new-orleans","tag-new-orleans-pelicans","tag-neworleans","tag-neworleanspelicans","tag-ny","tag-pelicans","tag-sourcenets-wire","tag-sstssportsnbanets","tag-sstsnnets","tag-tagbasketball","tag-tagbrooklyn","tag-tagbrooklyn-nets","tag-tagcason-wallace","tag-tagespn-inc","tag-tagnational-sports","tag-tagnba","tag-tagnba-draft","tag-tagnew-orleans-pelicans","tag-tagoklahoma-city-thunder","tag-tagoverall-neutral","tag-tagsports-news","tag-tagtrey-murphy-iii","tag-typestory
["GET
