{"id":775171,"date":"2026-07-01T07:27:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T07:27:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/775171\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T07:27:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T07:27:12","slug":"fischer-steins-latest-spurs-lakers-lebron-post-rockets-sasser","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/775171\/","title":{"rendered":"Fischer\/Stein&#8217;s Latest: Spurs, Lakers, LeBron, Post, Rockets, Sasser"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the Spurs peruse the free agent market for help at forward, there\u2019s a belief that they\u2019re not willing to offer more than two years to potential targets using their <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/values-of-2026-27-mid-level-bi-annual-exceptions.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">$15MM non-taxpayer mid-level exception<\/a>, according to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/marcstein.substack.com\/p\/lots-more-of-the-nbas-latest-late\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jake Fischer and Marc Stein of The Stein Line<\/a> (Substack link).<\/p>\n<p>As Fischer and Stein observe, after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/wembavi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Victor Wembanyama<\/a>\u2018s next contract hits the Spurs\u2019 books in 2027\/28, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/castlst01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Stephon Castle<\/a> will be due for his own second deal in \u201928\/29, so it makes sense that the club would want to maintain a relatively clean cap sheet in anticipation for what figures to be a significant commitment to the rising star guard.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/hachiru01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Rui Hachimura<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/h\/harrito02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tobias Harris<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/search\/search.fcgi?pid=collijo01,collijo02&amp;search=John+Collins&amp;utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Collins<\/a> are among the veteran free agents San Antonio is considering, Fischer and Stein note, with Hachimura also said to be drawing interest from the Nets and Pistons.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s more from the Stein Line duo:<\/p>\n<p>Following up on their <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/06\/lakers-expected-to-sign-mamukelashvili-grimes-still-pursuing-kessler.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">earlier report<\/a> stating that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/g\/grimequ01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Quentin Grimes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mamuksa01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Sandro Mamukelashvili<\/a> are widely expected to sign with the Lakers, Fischer and Stein say those contracts could come in around $10MM per year. Assuming the room exception is used to add one of those two players, that would leave the team roughly $40MM in cap room to make a play for Jazz restricted free agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kesslwa01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Walker Kessler<\/a>. Kessler is considered to be Los Angeles\u2019 top center target over Pistons RFA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/durenja01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jalen Duren<\/a>, though L.A. has interest in both players, who will likely be difficult to pry away from their current clubs.<br \/>\nThe Warriors, Cavaliers, and Heat are the teams most frequently cited by rival front offices as probable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jamesle01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">LeBron James<\/a> landing spots, and Fischer and Stein hear that Golden State may have already lined up a move or two in order to create additional cap flexibility in case LeBron wants to come to the Bay Area.<br \/>\nOne minor complication for the Warriors, Fischer and Stein report, is that restricted free agent big man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/p\/postqu01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Quinten Post<\/a> is receiving interest from multiple teams. There\u2019s a chance one of those clubs may be willing to sign Post to an offer sheet in order to put some pressure on a potentially cap-strapped Golden State team.<br \/>\nIn order to re-sign restricted free agent forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/easonta01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tari Eason<\/a> and free up the non-taxpayer mid-level exception to offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/smartma01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Marcus Smart<\/a> a three-year deal in the range of $7MM annually, the Rockets are trying to move forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/f\/finnedo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Dorian Finney-Smith<\/a>, per The Stein Line. If those efforts are unsuccessful, Houston\u2019s offer to Smart would have to be for just two years using the taxpayer mid-level exception (worth up to about $6.2MM per year).<br \/>\nThe Mavericks are a potential landing spot for Pistons guard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/sassema01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-01_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Marcus Sasser<\/a>, who is a candidate to be traded, Fischer and Stein report.
