{"id":779830,"date":"2026-07-06T18:18:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T18:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/779830\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T18:18:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T18:18:14","slug":"celtics-finalize-jaylen-brown-trade-excited-to-welcome-paul-george","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/779830\/","title":{"rendered":"Celtics finalize Jaylen Brown trade, &#8216;excited to welcome&#8217; Paul George"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Jaylen Brown-for-Paul George blockbuster became official Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>After the NBA\u2019s moratorium on trades was lifted, the Celtics confirmed they had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2026\/07\/01\/celtics-reportedly-trading-jaylen-brown-to-76ers-for-paul-george-picks\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">dealt Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers<\/a> in exchange for George, two first-round draft picks and two second-round picks.<\/p>\n<p>The trade ends Brown\u2019s 10-year run with the Celtics, during which he appeared in 816 games, scored the 10th-most points in franchise history and helped lead Boston to an NBA championship in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In his final season on Causeway Street, the 29-year-old finished as the NBA\u2019s fourth-leading scorer (28.7 points per game), made second-team All-NBA and received the sixth-most NBA MVP votes. He spearheaded an underdog Celtics squad that won 56 games before losing to his new team, the rival Sixers, in the first round of the playoffs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJaylen Brown will rightfully go down as one of the defining players of this era,\u201d Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said in a statement. \u201cLike the best Celtics before him, he is a terrific player and has also had a huge impact off the court. On a personal level, I am thankful to have had a front-row seat to the first 10 years of his illustrious career. I could go on and on, but a few sentences, paragraphs, or even chapters wouldn\u2019t do it justice. His legacy as a Celtic is forever etched in stone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stevens also spoke highly of George, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/2026\/07\/06\/grading-celtics-additions-what-will-paul-george-mitchell-robinson-bring\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nine-time All-Star who battled injuries<\/a> throughout his stints with the 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers. His statement suggested the Celtics do not plan to flip the 36-year-old in a subsequent deal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPaul George has been one of the best two-way wings of the last decade in the NBA and can easily fit into any group,\u201d Stevens said. \u201cHe\u2019s looking forward to joining the Celtics, and we\u2019re excited to welcome him and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In their trade announcement, the Celtics detailed the complicated conditions of the draft picks they received from Philly. Those are as follows:<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 A 2028 first-round pick (the LA Clippers\u2019 own) that, if it is top 16, instead becomes the unprotected right for Boston to swap its currently held 2028 first-round pick (the worst of Boston\u2019s and San Antonio\u2019s) with the better of the LA Clippers\u2019 or (if Philadelphia\u2019s is top 8) Philadelphia\u2019s 2028 first-round pick<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Philadelphia\u2019s 2031 unprotected first-round pick<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The most favorable 2028 second-round pick among Golden State\u2019s, Milwaukee\u2019s or Oklahoma City\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The most favorable 2030 second-round pick among Phoenix\u2019s, Portland\u2019s or Washington\u2019s<\/p>\n<p>Stevens and Celtics majority owner Bill Chisholm are scheduled to hold a news conference at 4 p.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Jaylen Brown-for-Paul George blockbuster became official Monday afternoon.
