{"id":782519,"date":"2026-07-09T22:21:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T22:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/782519\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T22:21:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T22:21:14","slug":"heres-how-much-michael-malones-first-unc-mens-basketball-staff-members-will-make-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nba\/782519\/","title":{"rendered":"Here&#8217;s how much Michael Malone\u2019s first UNC men\u2019s basketball staff members will make :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>North Carolina men\u2019s basketball coach Michael Malone\u2019s first coaching staff will make more than $1.7 million, <a href=\"https:\/\/uncdm.northcarolina.edu\/salaries\/index.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">according to a database of salaries for UNC-System employees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UNC hasn\u2019t released the contracts or other details of Malone\u2019s coaching staff.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Malone, who led the Denver Nuggets to the NBA Championship in 2023, was hired in April to replace Hubert Davis, who was fired after five seasons in Chapel Hill.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Malone agreed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/sports\/michael-malone-unc-contract-terms-april-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a six-year, $50-million contract<\/a>, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college basketball. He will make $7.5 million in the first year.<\/p>\n<p>Salaries for Malone\u2019s assistants:<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tChuck Martin, who was an assistant coach at Arkansas last year, will be paid $500,000 this year. Pat Sullivan, a former UNC player and holdover from Davis\u2019 staff, will make $390,143 this year. Sullivan\u2019s previous two-year contract, which expired on June 30, paid him $369,071.Bryan Tibaldi, who was an assistant coach at Providence last season, will be paid $365,000 this year.Sean May, a former UNC player and another holdover from Davis\u2019 staff, will make $344,659 this year. May\u2019s previous two-year contract, which expired on June 30, paid him $312,290.Brandon Robinson, a former UNC player who coached with the Salt Lake Stars of the NBA\u2019s G League last season, will make $125,000 this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTremendous amount of respect for this program and the history that they occupy in NCAA basketball history, but we\u2019re going to do it our way,\u201d Malone said at his introductory press conference. \u201cI\u2019m going to use people like Coach [Roy] Williams, Coach Eddie Fogler, Pat Sullivan, Sean May, all the guys that are here and learn from them and push forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UNC general manager Jim Tanner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wral.com\/sports\/unc-mens-basketball-gm-jim-tanner-contract-raise-july-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who signed a five-year contract in 2025<\/a>, will make $950,000.<\/p>\n<p>Davis\u2019 assistants Jeff Lebo and Brad Frederick weren\u2019t retained by Malone.
