The Boston Celtics may be marching toward another NBA championship, but a financial storm could be brewing behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

Following Shams Charania\u2019s report that the reigning champions will explore trade options<\/a> this offseason, NBA analyst Brian Windhorst dropped a bombshell suggestion: Jaylen Brown<\/a> might be on the trading block.<\/p>\n

Despite being the current Finals MVP and a central figure in Boston\u2019s success, his massive contract and the team\u2019s long-term cap concerns could make him a surprising yet strategic trade candidate.<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s not feasible\u2018 \u2013 The financial reality facing Boston\u2019s new owners<\/p>\n

Windhorst argues that the Celtics\u2019<\/a> financial situation makes a significant roster shakeup virtually inevitable, regardless of this season\u2019s outcome.<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, if they kept this roster intact, would be facing with taxes, a 450-ish million dollar payroll,\u201d Windhorst explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir revenue is somewhere around $450 million a year. It\u2019s not feasible. We have new ownership that is coming in that is paying six plus billion dollars for the team right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The analyst believes these financial constraints will force difficult decisions, even for the defending champions.<\/p>\n

Brown\u2019s $53 million salary next season<\/a> coincides with Jayson Tatum\u2019s<\/a> supermax extension kicking in at approximately $54 million.<\/p>\n

Supporting two supermax contracts while maintaining a championship-caliber supporting cast presents an unprecedented financial challenge.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to deal with that money losing situation. So while nobody has come out and said they\u2019re going to trade this guy, they\u2019re going to trade that guy,\u201d Windhorst continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey got a payroll. Everybody knows the finances and sees the books and understands that this is coming to an end one way or another.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Is trading a Finals MVP really on the table?<\/p>\n

Despite the extraordinary prospect of trading a Finals MVP in his prime, Windhorst<\/a> suggests Brown\u2019s massive contract makes him the most logical candidate if Boston needs financial flexibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd so the way this playoffs play out will be in effect. And so because Jaylen Brown earns that big money, people are saying, \u2018is that going to be the guy they move?’\u201d Windhorst noted, while acknowledging alternatives exist.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat may not necessarily be true. They may say, \u2018we\u2019re keeping Jason Tatum and Jaylen brown together, come hell or high water, and we\u2019ll try to find somewhere else to fill in these guys.\u2019\u201c<\/p>\n
