For the first time in nearly a decade, LeBron James is a free agent. <\/p>\n
And to nobody\u2019s surprise, the 22-time All-Star and the NBA\u2019s all-time leading scorer is capturing headlines, especially as it pertains to the Miami Heat.<\/p>\n
In July of 2010, James made The Decision, a highly publicized free agency special, where he ultimately decided to leave Cleveland for the first time in his career and join the Heat. Now, in an entirely separate saga, Miami appears to be one of the teams making a big push to land James, and they could have the leg up.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had somebody tell me today that one of the other teams believes that Miami\u2019s in the lead,\u201d The Athletic\u2019s Sam Amick said<\/a> earlier this week on a KNBR Radio appearance. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t know where they\u2019re getting intel, and that\u2019s always the tricky part.\u201d<\/p>\n While the head of Klutch Sports Agency, Rich Paul, made a whiteboard detailing all the possible core fits for James (Heat were mentioned), Paul also revealed <\/a>that a decision isn\u2019t expected to be made any time soon.<\/p>\n At the end of the day, James and Klutch keep their cards very close to their chest. We can\u2019t speak about the conversations being had behind closed doors, but teams aren\u2019t having meetings with James. They aren\u2019t even making pitches<\/a> to him \u2014 they\u2019re making pitches to Rich Paul to relay to the four-time champion.<\/p>\n This is James\u2019 last opportunity to capture everyone\u2019s full attention for where he\u2019ll play next. And he\u2019s milking it like a cow.<\/p>\n The Heat\u2019s case is quite compelling. They can currently offer him the most money (~$7 million) of any of the listed suitors, who are mostly relegated to the veteran minimum; they already have an established defense \u2014 led by Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo \u2014 to cover up for James\u2019 miscues; he would immediately be the team\u2019s most gifted playmaker; Miami has a lot of golf!<\/p>\n Teaming up with Erik Spoelstra, Antetokounmpo and Adebayo isn\u2019t a bad idea, especially in a good-not-great Eastern Conference.
